Coug, which transmission do you have in your truck? That's pretty good mileage at that weight but I saw you also said you were 65 on the highway.
Thanks
I agree with Coug's preference for electronic controllers. Night and day difference once you get a decently heavy trailer. Also really nice to turn it down when the trailer is empty so you don't lock up the brakes every time you stop. Once heavy you can crank it to the right setting for the load.
Very nice write up. I have both the 10K hitch you have and the xm381. Both have worked great for over a year. I mounted my xm381 to the underside of the bed using carriage bolts. The heads are covered by a removable bedliner. I haven't yet done the brake controller but its on my to-do list...
Cool project! If my wife came out and policed the completion of projects I would be in serious trouble! Some projects have conveniently been hidden from view!
Hi Tobash from a few posts up I was wondering how the 765R4 is working out? Was there certain things that pushed you toward the 765 vs built 700 when you talked to the supplier? If I ever swap I may want to try this. I have a plain vanilla canvas doors and top 6.2 '93 that runs well but I...
Can I ask about the protection under the fenders as it wasn't clear. Once installed is there protection of the fan and exchanger from rocks being kicked up from the tires?
Inspector1, can you mention a little more about the kit? The model you ordered, any extra parts needed outside of the kit, how the install went and first impressions? Thanks!
You guys are a tough crowd! I wanted to share what I've learned with him as I only learned by asking a lot of stupid questions to patient people and reading info I was pointed toward. I give him credit for wanting to learn. It could be way worse, he could be that whistlindiesel guy on youtube...
Quick thoughts to add after reading this.
First is if you want to check the fan at high idle there is the throttle lock under the dash. After letting it run for a minute bump up the RPMs and disconnect the thermostat sensor and see if you get the jet engine sound we all know well. If it...
Is the turbo setup you have pulling exhaust from both sides or just one? Do you know the same question for the 6.7? From simple engineering I would think if the answer is the same for both the 6.2 would spit out 92% (6.2/6.7) of the exhaust volume of the 6.7 at a given rpm and therefore should...
This is pretty cool and I love the experimenting. My main reaction was to where the turbo sits. I'd either build a big custom doghouse with tons of insulating mat on it, or put a cast iron top on it and make hibachi shrimp because there's some serious heat right there!
One note I'll make as mine was painted with Behr as mentioned above is that while it scratches easier its pretty easy to touch up.
I also had great success with it painting the soft top and doors. I thinned it 50/50 with denatured alcohol and sprayed two light coats to take the camo soft top...
Since the picture also captures the XM381 12V trailer wire adapter and the aftermarket hitch I added I can comment on those as well. I've loved the XM381 setup. I have no affiliation with them, paid for it, and don't know anyone there but it was a quality unit with great instructions and I'm...
