Tourists Running Drills on MY Beach :)

Supervising. Anytime you have more than three soldiers in a detail one of them transforms into a supervisor. This is even worse with civilian contractors. The effect seems to be exponential such that a sufficiently large detail has only chiefs and no braves.

No power to cab accessory outlet

Huh. Never seen one disabled on purpose. I doubt that story. The outlet is there to keep soldiers from running their own wiring to the batteries. I used to carry an inverter with alligator clips to run my portable DVD player off the HMMWV batteries. Fuses? We don't need that foolishness. And the...

    R model FMTV Schematics

If you want the most up to date electronic TM's send me a PM. The system has to have it's viewer software that is highly vertically integrated into the military maintenance support device (MSD). It's not just a manual - it's a maintenance system that integrates the manuals with the test hardware...

    Rpm

That would actually make it worse. The way u-joints work - at anything other than zero angle they don't rotate with constant velocity (thus the differentiation between a u-joint and any of the "CV" or Constant Velocity joints). As they rotate through 360 degrees they speed up and slow down and...

    Rpm

Yep. If you are keeping the hub reductions (especially the LMTV with the low pinion diff) you need to change the u-joints every 15k miles, and grease them every 3-5k miles. You can probably double that with the ECO hubs but the low pinion 4x4's shouldn't go over 30k even with ECO hubs IMO. The...

    Rpm

Yes. 7.8:1 final drive with the hub reductions. And it destroys the engines, transmissions, drivelines, etc. All that junk is turning 120 mph equivalent at 60 mph road speed. That's why the military's testing showed a MTBF of ~35,000 miles. And they are perfectly OK with that. If you aren't I...

Restart procedure post Overhaul. Won't crank.

From what I understand the oil level feature is optional and the military didn't opt for it. Maybe it doesn't apply to our extra-deep pan or possibly the controller doesn't have enough GPIO to assign for that function with our AWD and extra 1st gear low range..... IDK but I'm about 99.95%...

Restart procedure post Overhaul. Won't crank.

I drive a WTEC IV, but my display says "NN" with ignition on, engine off. And N means neutral which indicates it should be ready to run the starter. My guess is you have something going on with the crank circuit.... But the transmission at least *thinks* you are good to start. Haven't proven...

Interesting - I thought our transmissions didn't have the fluid level sensing option. I haven't run across any evidence of it anyway.

    Allison 3070 leaking

Huh. Well I would say that since it slowed down significantly you probably at least have touched the source of the fluid. Is there any special tools for centering that front seal flange? Did the TC seal get replaced again when the plate was re-sealed? How is the TC seal surface? Perhaps you need...

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

 No. The required tools list for wheel bearing service does not include either one. There are brass drifts and punches in the general mechanics tool set. The only special tools required are the CTIS seal driver, the inner hub grease seal driver, and the 3-7/8" x 7" spindle nut socket. In...

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

Correct. They are unrelated. I had one wheel (font right) that had gear oil in the CTIS stud. All my bearings had grease though. That's wild and I can only imagine the horror that would have followed if you hadn't found that till it seized. For cleaning the spindle - red/brown scotch brite...

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

Right - the Amsoil is >500 dropping point. The 315 number is just calcium sulfate greases in general which aren't necessarily synthetic. The high end synthetics are pretty dang high. I like the Amsoil because it's specifically formulated for moist environments and these trucks are rated for...

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

The Amsoil grease I use is a calcium sulfonate complex rather than a lithium complex. The calcium sulfonate has a dropping point of 315 degrees vs the lithium complex of 260 degrees. It also has greater shear stability, better water resistance, and higher pressure protection. It's better in...

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

Ultimately it's just wheel bearing grease. I used Amsoil blue waterproof grease on all the trucks I've done hub services and ECO hubs on. No issues at all. https://www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-100-synthetic-water-resistant-grease-gwr/ I suppose the military likes the yellow because you can tell...

Where did your truck come from? I am curious who may be responsible for such an oversight.

What have you done to your FMTV or LMTV today

WOOF! That's not good. Looks like PVT Snuffy didn't pack it with grease. Now you get to pull them all off and check them all. That SUCKS.

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

When you reprogram the A1+ truck ECM to correct the speedo that same signal is used by the CTIS controller so it will go to over speed warning at the same ~65 mph that it always did. But you can pop into the Dana software and change the HWY over speed warning to whatever you want.
