Now that the battery problem is figured out, what does anyone know about this stuff? I was told the white crud in my tank is probably algae. WTF, I have algae growing in my tank!! I was also told that cummins make something that gets rid of it and, this algae can clog up fuels lines and filters...
Ok, I've checked my batteries and have determined the little civy battery is bad. The 8D is good. Now here is part of the battery problem solved, I have another 8D that is also good. Can the M818 handle two 8D batteries? The other problem I'm having with the batteries is that they are too tall...
I know the batteries are another issue, a BIG issue. The previous owner had it wired up this way, but now I own it and want to change it. I'm looking into another 8D or 2 smaller ones like it, maybe a 6D. I really don't care as long as it can function properly, and the cover steps fit over them...
Before anyone say's anything, these are the batteries that where in the truck when I bought is. The batteries did not make contact with anything and the connections are good. The batteries are too tall for the cover to even fit over them. I know they are not correct, but the truck would start...
I checked my belts this morning, and the only one I found that was loose is the water pump belt. It looked worn so I ordered a new belt. I haven't found any loose wires or connections, but I'm NOT ruling that one out yet. I did find that my truck is leaking diesel. See the pictures below. Also I...
I was thinking I would have to have it running to just to see which belts are screeching. If my Alternator is out to lunch, then it would have to be running to check the gauge to see if it is charging. I'm going to check the tech manual.
I got to get the beast running again before I check the belts. I'm hoping that jarring bump just knocked an adjustment bracket loose on the alt or something else. I'm hoping that is the only thing causing the belts screeching. I hate headaches... aua
My batteries are secure. All my lights come on, gauges work, etc. The only problem as stated, the belts started screeching, the engine wouldn't stay running, and then it wouldn't even turn over. Now one thing I was wondering about is, what if the ignition circuit has a loose wire/ground in it...
I didn't know that. I thought they military diesel's could keep going without power. Anyways Like I said earlier, the starter did work, until I got close to the house. The solenoid doesn't even catch now. Does the solenoid/starter have a temperature protection built into it?
All the lights and gauges do work. It could be a lose wire on the starter, but if it is why would the engine die. Shouldn't the cummins keep running even without any power? Anyways I'm adding this to my check list.
Hey guys, I'm trying to trouble shoot this and get an idea where to start. My truck is a m818, with cummins NHC 250. I was driving the truck home from work, hit some bumpy train tracks and my truck died. It started up and I continued home. About 200 yards from home, the truck just died. The...
It pulls the engine down when it's warm, hot, or cold. I don't know if the pressure is high or low on the air tanks. My gauge has a very sticky needle, but it never makes it up to 120 psi. That's probably a gauge that need replacing. I have a new/spare air pressure regulator. I don't know if...
I have an M818, which has the Cummins NHC 250. It idles fine at around 550 to 600 rpms, then a strange ticking sound starts and the engine rpm's drop to around 400 to 350, sometimes it just dies. I can hold my foot on the accelerator to keep the rpms up, then without notice the ticking will stop...
