Well timed post as I am about to do mine, most of my top screws either sheared, stripped out or I had to cut to get the windshield hinge off, so was contemplating just what you are now.
My thought was probably to drill out, weld over, grind down, and then re-drill/tap in the right locations...
Yes absolutely and it can be easy to miss that since those washers can have the appearance of being a permanently attached part of the axle shaft rather than the (replaceable) washer that they are.
In fact I believe the TM calls for replacing them every time you do axle job if I remember correctly.
Creating this thread since I didn't see this info in the forums anywhere.
When opening the passenger side knuckle we found needle bearings in the grease from where the ujoint had failed, not sure why.
Trying to source one was fun as most of the info is on driveline ujoints and the surplus...
On Saturday reconnected everything started up and it ran just fine drove it to my cousin's shop where we started breaking down tires and hubs.
Up front found a blown u joint on the right side and on the left rear inside dual the bud nut was friction welded off and had to be ground off at the...
Just now in bed at the end of the evening after starting it 7:30 so not a lot of energy left for a write-up but got everything blood out and buttoned back up and after diagnosing a dead start switch it came right to life and sounded great.
No gases to speak of at either the oil or radiator caps...
Got it buttoned up to the point I could spin the motor today with injectors out and expelled coolant from number 5 cylinder.
Injectors are back in as well as return lines working on cleaning up the fuel filter assembly before reinstalling and bleeding the fuel system for the help of the first...
Yesterday received the takeoff oil cooler cover that @patracy sent my way, super thankful for him doing that and looking forward to getting it on today 👍
Good call that stuff is not cheap and doesn't last forever. I actually got one of those Sureshot canisters a couple years back to use a brake clean thinking it would save me some money but there's no replacement for the force that the aerosol cans have.
Today I retorqued the heads reinstalled...
Bolt number three in the torque sequence on the rearward head was the only one that was not to spec torque it also happens to be the one right over top of the cylinder that had the coolant in it
I retorqued to 140 lbft but stopped short of the recommended 157 because it didn't seem like it was...
Picked up a case of brake clean and sundry other items for the impending hub and brake job as well as picked up the glass which was ready from the local glass company.
It's raining today looks like it may continue into Saturday which is putting a serious cramp on my style given that the deuce...
Loaded up and dropped off the tires at the tire place some of the old rims had been sitting in the dirt and we're pretty gnarly but a good pressure washing knocked most of the surface stuff off and man these rims are resilient I feel like I'd be hard-pressed to do anything to him given how thick...
I'm helping to run a VBS at our church this week so have had little time but my torque converter wrench came in the mail yesterday which is basically like a boxed end crowfoot wrench for torquing the head studs underneath the rocker arm
I'm right now taking a load of tires and rims to the tire...
Replied to you directly with the info and this is why I love this community and the individuals in it thank you for the quick assistance!
My heart sank when I looked at the one I got off eBay and realized it was not going to be usable
That looks like it and given the fact that the paint isn't peeling on the outside makes me think that coolant was not leaking through.
If you think you can get that here by the end of the week let me know what I need to do, I super appreciate your quick responses as I'm hustling before the 4th o_O
Pulled eight 1200 r20 Michelin XMLs out of storage and pressure washed them to get them ready for mounting as super singles on some spare rims I have.
The "spare rims" are actually still mounted on old tires some 9 20s some 11 20s all ndt/ndcc however some had filled up with rain water somehow...
@patracy that's my preference but the only other ones available that I know of (2x) are also in used and similar unknown state for $300 plus.
If you have a known good one that you're willing to part with and could get to Maryland 21617 by the end of this week, I'd love to get you some money for it.
