Buck converter to step 24v down to 12v to run LED headlights?

I agree with the others that LED's are the way to go if you want to see in the dark and to be seen at all hours. Ebay cheapie LED's on my 5-ton. 12v/24v. Fit and work perfect, great light pattern when aimed properly, very bright: Amazon not-so cheapies on my Deuce. 12v/24v. Fit and work...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Blew up my alternator... On a maintenance run Saturday afternoon and suddenly had white, acrid electrical smoke fill the cab and the air behind my Deuce. A glance at the gauges showed everything still in the green except the voltmeter showed an issue. I assumed I had an electrical fire...

1953 REO Deuce Joins the Farm Motorpool

Yes, it was the only one I ever came across with hinged flaps as well. To have them still attached and in relatively good shape is rare to say the least. It makes our trucks very unique.

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2020 - July VOTE HERE

Yes there is. I've already found paint in some areas that is 1/4" thick...and not always just in the corners! Someone was very liberal with the paint on a couple of occasions.

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2020 - July VOTE HERE

@Tracer Thanks again for more heads up on cowl rust issues. I value the advice. Actually the picture is of the right rear of the bed and the rust is a lot more superficial than it looks in the picture...and there is plenty of steel left there. Surprisingly the bed is in the worst...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2020 - July VOTE HERE

@Tracer Thank you for the heads-up. I am also missing the clip for the hook so I do, indeed, have two holes in my cowl. I was up under the dash in that area with a flashlight inspecting some wiring last weekend and I did not notice any unusual rust, but I was not specifically looking for it...

1953 REO Deuce Joins the Farm Motorpool

Thanks. Agreed. It can be a small world sometimes. Yes. I am slowing shooting the 5-ton with 30277 Camouflage Sand. I like the khaki tint of it and she looks quite good IMO. I don't have anywhere "controlled" to paint so I am at the mercy of the wind, weather, bugs, etc. along with her...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2020 - July VOTE HERE

Finally got a chance to spend some time with my Deuce yesterday and I located the frame S/N. The Serial Number and Registration Number both match the information from the M35 Gas Deuce Spreadsheet posted here on SS. Everything points to her being a 1952 so I will go with that! :) Serial...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2020 - July VOTE HERE

@Tracer Thanks for the info. I assumed when I first really looked at her that with the mud flaps, early dash gauge arrangement and the supporting production year info stamped on the dataplate she was a very early truck. I have been dealing with an unfortunate family issue pretty much since I got...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2020 - July VOTE HERE

@m715mike Great looking lineup of trucks! I especially like your 810! I love my 923 but there is just something about the look of the old, narrow-cab trucks that is more visually appealing compared to the newer models. I am pretty sure she is a 1952 based on the registration number...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2020 - July VOTE HERE

A few more interesting things about my girl... Remains of the rear exhaust hanger from her days as a gasser: The rear and intermediate axles are the original Timken axles while the front axle is a replacement post-Timken/Rockwell merger Rockwell Standard axle. Data tags are still attached...

Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2020 - July VOTE HERE

OK. By request, here's the story so far of my Deuce... :) First off, I originally thought she was a 1953 REO. But just this evening, after doing some digging to prepare for this posting, I discovered she is actually a 1952 REO!!! So even another year older and more unusual than I...

MV of the Month July 2020

I just retrieved her last week so I have had very limited time to work with her or to even clean her up much but I will nominate my 1953 REO Deuce in the "natural state" category. There should always be a Deuce up each month ;) Looking good at 67 years old!

1953 REO Deuce Joins the Farm Motorpool

This past week I brought home a 1953 REO Deuce to join her big sister M923 at the Farm. I tracked her down back in March and waited for summer to recover her. A personal connection for me with this truck...as a kid I lived within spitting distance from the plant she was built at in downtown...

Anybody have any aftermarket M35A* LED headlights they particularly like?

I agree 100%. It would go a long way if every MV owner on SS, at a minimum, would check and adjust their headlight aim - especially if they have done a tire size change (up or down). It would separate us nicely from the pickup crowd that doesn't seem to understand the concept that doing an 8"...

Anybody have any aftermarket M35A* LED headlights they particularly like?

You can also buy 7" headlights with clear or faceted lenses to retain the "stock" look for your truck but have replaceable LED bulbs. You get the best of both - original look and LED light performance. But make sure you get a set actually designed and engineered for LED's...not a garage swap...

Anybody have any aftermarket M35A* LED headlights they particularly like?

Hi Murph360 No, I did not hook up the DRL's. No reason to for me as headlights are always on when I am on public roads and the DRL's wouldn't really add any additional visibility to others. But it would be simple to wire the DRL's to come on with the headlights, with the ignition or with a...

Plastic plugs under windshield... anybody have a place to get them?

Try home improvement stores like Lowes/Home Depot/Menards, etc. for "plastic hole plugs". They are usually in one of the specialty fastener drawers in the hardware aisle and come in various sizes.

Anybody have any aftermarket M35A* LED headlights they particularly like?

Ebay $45/set cheapies. 12V/24V. They have worked great and actually put out a lot of useful light in a good pattern. Aiming them properly will avoid blinding others as much as possible.
