Re: the hazards of CARC paint, I also heard a story from someone who worked at BMY in the early '90s building M939A2s: Apparently, another byproduct of CARC fumes is cyanide...
Nasty stuff...Makes lead-based paint look tame or so I'm told.
Re: parked in gear, I don't think this one was left in gear, although, I have seen it happen often.
The first time I ever drove a stick shift (it wasn't that long ago actually) it was in an USMC M813A1. It had been left parked in gear, and being it was the first time I ever drove a manual I...
Dead thread revival I know, but I'm having a similar situation on a truck, but in this case it's been sitting for 6 years so I suspect rust is the culprit. I didn't want to really just rip on it, or start shooting things with WD40 or Corrosion Block or PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench before I knew...
I second that. If you were to elect to bob one, I would highly suggest getting an M923A2 or M931A2 or something for that. In fact, the 931 tractors are about the right frame length already for a bob without cutting the frame.
The XLWBs are kind of rare anyway (only about 500 ever built) and...
While not to tell you what to do with your truck, the 927's are kinda rare as it is. I myself am considering getting a 927/8 and building something living situation wise on the stock bed...inside the existing bed dropsides. Shoot me a PM if you like and I'd be happy to pass along my ideas...
Welcome from another Alaska member! (Fairbanks and Southeast). Due to unforeseen events I myself have found myself surrounded by 5 tons, even though they aren't my own.
Shoot me a PM if you ever want to get together!
Funny you should mention a sawmill, as that's a situation in which I could use one here, as we have one! I have beachfront property and an M936 would be great for dragging logs up the hill/beach.
Re: repairs, I believe it! These trucks often "sat" in their military service and thus...
98G, that truck is a thing of beauty. Right now I'd give anything for a long-distance trip riding shotgun in an M939 series truck. I remember you texting me about the seat install but then I've been out of cell service ever since. Glad to see you've got her up and out on the road, makes my...
Fascinating thread! Gstirling, you daily driving this thing? I'd like to get an M936A1 and in addition to an income source I'd frankly make it my daily driver.
