This has been resolved - I got an original alternator thanks to @Jbulach . I'll leave it up as someone else looking for which one to use can find the 28si info.

I did an entire 939series truck using the smallest harbor freight pistol type sandblaster. I started with the idea that i was going to touch up the front bumper, and before I knew it i was finishing up the rear bumperettes a couple weeks later....

Good information, thanks! I'm not really concerned with much beyond getting something for the belt to ride. My use case for the wrecker means it's almost always at 1600rpm anyway, and it can even stay plugged in when parked.
