A few threads on cutting and rewelding the wheels pretty easy and straight forward. I weld for a living, so if someone else is getting paid to weld them at their shop it should go fine for me. It will not be quick but
Did you every finish the project? If so post some pics. and feedback. Been researching the same. I think the 395' will rub bad while I'm in and out of the back country and rivers. Coming up with my plan or just drop down to 12r20s and add lockers for full 6x6 capability.
Week 2 of thinking, tinkering and reading about this new infatuation is tiring me out and then a brown bear on the porch at 0200 ruined my nights sleep. time to read some more and order parts to get ready for next week. Finished a few welding jobs this week, so hopefully I can work on my toy...
Looked closer at it again today. Appears to be a canister to warm water or whatever liquid you want. the coolant from the manifold is runs around the tube like a heat exchanger and heats whatever is on the inside. Kind of neat. Hot water in the woods I guess.
One hose goes from a pump to end of manifold closest to cab then on end of manifold closest to radiator another hose comes out to pump and into that tube. Looks like a way to warm up water??? There is a piece of 3/4'' not the tube that a hose could be hooked to.
Thanks. I am saving pennies and spending dollars. On another note, lockers would more than make up the difference if running smaller tires. Trying to skin this cat only once.
I searched and didn't find anything. Any posts on cutting/making own custom wheel? Yes, Do not try this at home. I understand the safety precautions.
thanks,
I did take a friend (mechanic), my truck and lots of tools, fluids. I added a CCKW to the yard 2 weeks prior, but realized that is a complete project, so 2 MV's in 3 weeks for $3000.
My daughter already slapped her head with a crazy look. The lookieloos are showing up. My wife's friends are consoling her and encouraging like kind revenge. Yes, TM's and it even came with the shop manual.
I was getting heat from somewhere! I would guess it does due to where the truck was in service. Window open for sure. The truck spent its life in a gold mine here in Ak. It was used to transport supplies in and out. They also had a nice 5 ton. I plan to use the truck for play and going...
got one! 165 mile trip home. coolant leak, one rear flat tire, everything else ran great. All way up to 58ish. fuel consumption was not to shabby either. time to start learning.
