Have you looked into those strut kits that will help lift the hood and hold it up? I don't remember who it that was making them but they aren't making them anymore unless I'm unaware of it. I think that would be a handy piece of kit on any deuce or five ton.

Is that stopper made of steel? Is it possible that stem can break off and the plug floating within the HH?

If you find something that works good, could you share what make and model of truck you got it from.
