A light sniff of ether won’t hurt the 855. Less than a second of spray would wake her up on a cold morning. Block heater is the best way to go though.

My m817 would usually start after about 15 seconds of cranking when below freezing. If it didn’t a small shot of starting fluid would do it. My glow plug didn’t work.

You could get a webasto type diesel heater and save a ton of fuel by not idling all night. Would fit right under the seats. Knockoffs are cheap and reliable.

Simple solution is to install a new one wire alternator grounded properly and positive wire ran to starter or directly to battery. No need to rewire everything if nothing else is wrong.

40k is a lot for an old hunk of surplus military equipment. If I was buying anything that age (especially at that price) I would do a thorough inspection to make sure I was satisfied with what I was getting before money changed hands. If you can spend 40k on a toy, what’s a few hundred for a...
You need 2 because it is 2 separate 12v batteries in series making 24v, not 12v. If you got a 24 V charger you would only need one.

If it doesn’t engage the PTO when you pull the lever down, try leaving the trans in gear to stop it from spinning when you pull the dump lever down. My 817 was happier doing it that way.

You didn’t have someone in the cab? All you have to do is push the clutch in and it stops.... a PTO winch is no joke but once you know what each component does, it’s simple to operate.

Lots to unpack here.
Was the electrical fine before? If it was, you probably missed something like some ground wires. We can’t see what you did and didn’t do so go back through and start looking for loose or missing wires. The TM has a wiring schematic in the back. Most electrical issues are...
Money pit. I’ll be the voice of reason here, send it to scrap so you don’t end up junk yard rich but money poor living in a trailer in the woods of Alaska wondering where you went wrong.

I have an m817 but I just don’t need 2 trucks and I’m coming to the end of the bigger projects around my property so making the m923 a dumper should fulfill the need when I need a load of this or that without having to maintain, store and insure 2 trucks.
Here is my plan.
Hydraulics: clutch...
Hey guys,
I’m getting ready to start a dump bed conversion on my m923 so I though it would be good to learn from what others have done before I venture out on my own and do something stupid. I have a general list of questions below but feel free to add any pics or comments you may have.

Seems like the wheel is being reinvented here. Get an equalizer or just a 24-12v converter. Simple, proven and reliable. Why stuff a bunch of crazy electronics in a mechanical truck that leaks from every angle when it rains?

Rip it off and hook the dash air switch straight to the actuator. Then you have full control of when your in 6wd. One less part to fail too. Should be a diagram on here somewhere showing which lines to hook up. I just followed the lines and removed all of the unnecessary junk to simplify the...
I use staple method. Put a staple in the front of tread and use a tape measure hooked on one staple measuring to the other. Then roll truck forward and measure again. Adjust as necessary.
