So what if your PT pump doesn't have the ball to drill out? This one appears to be a solid shaft unless I'm missing something.

Drop the axle between the rears. Then only one axle is moving the truck.
Honestly it sounds like an engine issue at this point. If the front axle is off you've eliminated the sprag issue. How does it run? Smoke at all? What is max rpm that you can hit in each gear? If it's low in power...
Could be bad diesel too. It's the thing sat since 2002 and you're still trying to run that old diesel the engine may idle OK but will be really low on power. Lots of things to look at, time to start narrowing it down.

Have you checked the trans, transfer, diffs and hubs to see if anything is excessively hot? Same issue in high and low range? Might have a bad bearing somewhere. Could also have a brake sticking. I would check all of those items. Dropping the front driveshaft would be a good start to...
If someone buys a marine 5.9 I'll gladly trade it for a low mile 12 valve that's still in the truck. You can hear it run. Would come complete from top to bottom.

Just to add a little more info, my m809 with the NHC 250 will crank for about 10 seconds when it's 30-40 degrees out with the smoke getting progressively thicker until it fires off. Once it kicks off it just purrs while it builds air.
If I plug in the block heater, it fires right off like it...
Before you start spending money on expensive parts start with the cheap basic items. Fuel filter was recently changed so it may not have seated properly. Fuel line replacement is a maintenance item, I would just do it to rule that out and for piece of mind. If that doesn't fix it, start...
After things go through rebuild a lot of the parts get mixed up so you never know what you'll find in the axles. I've found all different types in all different years. The only ones I've never seen the u join style in is the early M39 series. Lots of times when they go to rebuild if there are...
Lots of info on this if you do a search. If you need zipper boot, buy them. The ones without zippers are good but you have to take more a part to use them.

Shouldn't have any issues with rust, mine all came out fine. I would recommend replacing all six bolts and washers when you do it though. Some of my washers were a little bent up and the bolts had minor corrosion so it made sense to put new stuff in there while it was apart. Bolts are...
Just replaced the belts on my M817. I pulled the pump and installed new copper gasket on water pump. I could see rtv around mine so I know if I adjusted it would never reseal. It makes sense to replace all of the bells if you're in there. No reason to cheap out and trying to use anything...
Hey all,
Has anyone converted an M809 series from direct drive fan to an air clutch setup like the M939 series? I know the fans are different from M809 to M939 even though the NHC 250 engine is in both. Fan spacing is tight on the older trucks but it sure would be nice for the engine to warm...
This would likely attract the attention of commercial vehicle enforcement and would be a huge liability if you were in any sort of an accident or any of the components failed.. I would only try something like this for use off highway around the farm.

Air brakes is another big selling feature that makes the 939 series more popular than the 809 series. Owning both, I can tell you that I'm much more confident with a load and parking on a hill in my 923 than I am in the 817. I like the feel of the 817 brakes but no redundancy and a crappy...
If your worried, get a clip on air chuck. Then you don't have to stand right there and hold it. I have a 50' hose with a clip on air chuck on one end and a regular with shut off valve on the other. I can set the desired pressure, clip on and go do something else without worry. Very useful...
What he said. Any of the older trucks with hydraulic brakes should be gone through and all soft lines replaced. Flush and bleed the entire system. Wheel cylinders should probably be replaced too. Don't work about spin on filters and other stuff like that until brakes are done.

I don't think you would need or want to. The bed couldn't take much more abuse. If you want to go bigger than that, you'd be building a new custom bed anyways so you could fit whatever you wanted.
