We despise gear pumps in th marine industry. Too noisy and no benefit. Vane pumps are always an upgrade. They're good for 3000 psi and last longer than gear pumps. If you need more than 3000 axial piston becomes the preferred flavor.
When converting to electronic or breaker less ignition you are to remove the ballast resistor. The ballast resistor only exists to extend the life of the breaker points.
I learned this from navigation lights on boats but installing LED lights in tinted fixtures can greatly reduce output. LED lights have narrow wavelengths that can be filtered by tinted lenses. LED lights are awesome but they are not a panacea. There will be trial and error.
I don't think you'll have any trouble but ask yourself, what is the worst that could happen? What if it does wet stack? Are you going to have to shake the carbon out of the exhaust? Worst case throw some new piston rings on a 2 cylinder engine? Will you get to this point within your lifetime?
For further clarification we replaced JD 6081 8.1L generator sets with these 4.5L units. The lube consumption was very high on the 8.1 units but we ran them to 35,000 hours this way. The 8.1 liter engines were burning about a gallon every 100 hours. The 4.5 engines don't require additional lube...
I run John Deere 4045AFM85 engines as generator sets in my fleet. They spend 99% of their life at 10% load with monetary peaks to 75% load. We certainly do get carbon buildup in the stacks but have never actually experienced wet stacking or a stack fire. These engines average 2500-3000 hours per...
The 285/75R16 is 33 inches tall and fits stock suspension and rims.
If you see any 17 inch rims for cheap I suggest making the switch as it opens up a ton of less expensive tire options. I used steel rims from an early 2000's Dodge.
The industrial Sherwin Williams stores will sell CARC paint. The flavors available are going to depend on your regional VOV (volatile organic compounds) rules. Here in California we can only get the 1-part CARC which is a PITA to work with because it cures once the can is open unless you can...
Conventional oils have trace chemicals that cause seals to swell and and harden more quickly. Synthetics not so much. Seals last longer with synthetic oils as a result. This mostly applies to nitrile/Buna-N seals which Cat doesn't use. HNBR and Viton seals are highly resistant to affects from...
