CUCV hot wire and steering lock

CUCV returns to me after 3 years. In a bit of a pickle here, wow it's been years since i've posted.......anywho.....my old M1009 is coming back to me. Driving an hour to pick it up tomorrow and trailer her home. She's in a tow yard, no key's. Unknown running condition (hence the trailer)...

    Traded M1009 for this Deuce

Well I spent 3 hours yesterday power washing. Lots cleaner, sourced oil leaks to loose canister bolts and a brazed crack on the oil cooler sampling valve area. I'll be replacing it. Found a goodie under the seat, a new trailer gladhand hose and some some tools. I found out the truck is an El...

    Traded M1009 for this Deuce

Ah hah! I'll make it my Saturday project. Seems i'll need some NPT plugs from my readings. The TM shows the oil filter housing as having a cooler built into it. I didn't realize they had one, cool design being integral to the motor. It came with a spare set of gauges for the instrument cluster...

    Traded M1009 for this Deuce

Well we don't really have the room either, it fits between the city sidewalk and the street. But it's a large dirt spot and zoning is super lax here even for non runners in the street. Hasn't been an issue. My neighbors love it! I am looking through the TM's and cant yet find what that...

    Traded M1009 for this Deuce

Yes a power wash will happen Saturday. I'll get new pics posted after its clean. I don't make a lot of money right now so my wife and I have to take it slow with the Deuce as far as maintenance goes. That big oil pan looking thing with all the bolts on the oil filer housing, is there a gasket...

    Traded M1009 for this Deuce

I finally got my first Multifuel. Always wanted one. Even came with 395's and cargo cover. It runs great, no issues. But I'm parking it until I have time to be more thorough on brakes and fluids. It does have some oil leaks. Most appears to be from the cannisters. It looks like the steering...

Cleaned fuse box on M1009, shorted out glow plug system.

My great grandpa was an electrician on the Manhattan project, we still have his old uniform pins. Well I know who I don't take after. I didn't get to finish cleaning the fuse block connectors so I did that tonight, bright connections and new contact grease, turned the key and I have glow back!

Cleaned fuse box on M1009, shorted out glow plug system.

I am an idiot. While I had the fuse block apart on the firewall I forgot to disconnect the batteries. I took a wire brush to the connections to go and clean then and poof got a few light sparks. Anyway, since I did that my GP relay no longer cycles on and the wait light doesn't come on. I've...

    My GMC, a little update

Time to turn a page in my life. It has been an absolute honor and privelege getting to know all of you here. You guys were all a huge part of my teenage life and were good influences. I learned a lot with the GMC. I do not have any regrets. But it's time to move onto bigger things. I joined the...

Stereo in the M1009, I hear my engine in my speakers!

Thanks guys, the cell charger is not making any noise, the noise starts when the truck is started and is coming from the alternators. I'll see if napa has what I need

Stereo in the M1009, I hear my engine in my speakers!

So I finally slapped the stereo system in the M1009. The power is coming from the diamond shaped 12V supply on the firewall. I also have a cigarette lighter socket under my dash that feeds from the same 12v supply, I use it for small 12v stuff and charging my phone for trips. The stereo...

Fugly M1009 gets a new home

Okay so more parts are here, I scored a new take off hub on ebay for $55 shipped and its still freshly greased too. Gotta pickup a proper spindle nut socket today and figure out what brand of locking hubs I wanna buy, thinking stainless MileMarker supremes. But if someone has just a single Warn...

CUCV Replacement Heater Cores - No or Low Heat Output Reason

I just replaced my heater core. I was very disappointed with the thin Oreilly's replacement aluminum one, it fits like crap and is less than half the thickness of the heavy copper original. It came with sticky peel and seal foam where it mounts inside for an air tight seal, which works but man...

Fugly M1009 gets a new home

I forgot to update! -Turn signals fixed. Twas indeed the front signal bulb sockets. The inner leaf grounding springs were MIA. $6 each at Oreilly. :D -Inner & outer fender on! The old had to be beat and pried to death to remove. Both fit like a glove, good job GM. Lower cab corner was crimped...

Fugly M1009 gets a new home

My neighbor spotted me at the junkyard a couple weeks ago, he said hey I know where you live! Turns out he's a Chevy freak, today I stopped by in the M1009 and he threw a new passenger side window in for me, I owe him a case of fat tire next weekend. -Window Replaced -Floor rust 50% repaired...

Fugly M1009 gets a new home

Well well well it seems the collision pushed the front axle housing towards the right side of the frame almost about 1.75" inches. It seems the thin factory spring shackles on the front axle (the rear ones not the beefy fronts) are bent and it should be an easy remove and replace fix. Could...

Fugly M1009 gets a new home

Went shopping this morning with my laundry list, got home to find the radiator sprung a leak right in the driveway. Ouch.... It's coming from the underside where the tank meets the core below the drain cock. I just assume source a brand new replacement instead of dicking with this one.

Fugly M1009 gets a new home

Reconnected grounds at the radiator, it helped normalize things a little but they're still going apeshat crazy, it appears a broken rear bulb and some bad ground tabs in a front signal socket could be the problem. Parts houses were all closed today. Steering locks out early on right hand turns...

Fugly M1009 gets a new home

Mandy is home. I like Mandy, what do you guys think? Runs liked a raped ape, drove it to work today. After work came our first drive home in the dark. I go to flip on the headlights, and when I do, guess what happens? The hazards come on, or at least the dash bulbs did. It was intermittent. Turn...
