Man that was pure poetry. My hat is off you you, it's been simmering on craiglist for 48 hours. I like your perspective Dave, however much I try to detach the emotional aspect from the build, it is hard to deny the fact the entire project brought more than a few souls together in this world, it...
Well It pains me to write this, but she is up for sale as of tonight. About 3 weeks ago the grandparents started hinting around the fact they'd appreciate their view of the backyard back. And I can't say I blame them one bit, when it's gone it's gonna look like a building was tore down...
I had some catching up to do. Took me about 30 minutes to read all 14 pages. I had stopped at page 6. Very happy to see you've stuck in there brother. Oh yeah...
BOO
Here I am. :D
If the vehicle is to be stored indoors away from sunlight, the original enamel oil based paint will do fine. However if it is to be stored outside, I'd HIGHLY recommend using the Behr series of paints that you can find a multitude of posts on here on the forum. I painted mine over a year ago...
Previous owner retained the crossmember linkage as I had envisioned, excellent pictures and many thanks for posting! I will be replicating the setup on my own truck. Any pneumatic cylinder capable of 30lbs pulling force should be enough. Most are likely well above that range.
Topo, you are...
Just to clarify, the front axle engagement is done automatically. It kicks power to the front axle when any rear wheel begins to slip 6% faster than the front. The sprag which controls this action just needs to be told which way to deliver the power to the front axle. This is done via the...
Tim, I've honestly no idea how critical it is that the transfer be shifted in the direction of travel. I seem to recall a Memphis Equipment tech telling me it wouldn't take much to bind and break something inside. May I ask how the previous owner setup your reverse shifter rod? I am assuming he...
Hey, Tim. The forward/reverse shift rod on the transfer is a common repower problem. The original Hydramatic shift tower/linkage worked so the transfer case was shifted in unison with the transmission. Obviously, with any new transmission you'd be hard pressed to modify the linkage to work the...
No, the M35 dash will not swap into an M211 cab. Very different dimensions. As for your connector problem your looking for a "cannon plug". This is what plugs into the back of the light switch assembly. Your only hope of finding this part with some wire left on it is from a parts truck.
Good...
Brake spoon...that's a new one to me. I need to get out more. Have you considered upgrading your adjusters to the "early" kind that take a 5/8 wrench? If I recall, wheel bearings are due for repacking every 35,000 miles according to the TM. While your in there repacking things about 25 years...
Sounds like she is slowly coming together, totally the way to do things. The 6V sounds really happy in there, looks like it really gets up and moves too. As you know, the #1 killer of Detroits is under revving. To the untrained ear, they sound like they're about to come apart. What's not to love...
Dave, dave, dave, davey! Don't you feel like slapping that guy named Murphy sometimes? He comes around at the worst possible time.....that's his law alright.
A quick walk around on the GMC.....I am in need of 2 rear markers (2 wire) and 1 front marker (3 wire). The rest of my light assemblies...
Can you be more specific on the headlight switch connector? Any electrical G749 parts are still easy to source.
Wheel cylinders.....brand new Raybestos ones from Napa will run you around $35 each. The part number is WC15306 and if you google this number plenty of search results will pop up...
