    HMMWV 4L80E Reman Transmission

I'm gearing up for this job later this month. Finding out who my friends are (ha!) as I ask around for assistance. (only kidding, sort of) Can anyone comment on the proper balance point for the trans/t-case, i.e. where should I position the transmission jack under them as I unbolt them? I'll...

Potential for New Soft Doors HMMWV

If reskinning with full size skins doesn’t pan out, you might consider making half doors. I made a few and folks liked them, but I didn’t want to buy a pallet of frames. If you have them on hand, it’s an option. Bdgr

Potential for New Soft Doors HMMWV

I found the page using Google, which saves older pages sometimes. Maybe Breton has disabled that pathway and the page is a leftover and not really usable. I contacted them a few years ago about a HMMWV issue and got the impression they aren't at all interested in aftermarket, only Govt...

Potential for New Soft Doors HMMWV

Breton are back in business and are taking backorders. I got a top from them, had to wait but it arrived faster than expected and is genuine OEM. https://bretonindustries.com/product-category/hmmwv-humvee/ Not to diminish your plan, as another supplier is always good I think, but there are...

    Steering help

That's odd. I rebuilt my 998 with the newest, beefiest Moog parts and never had any fitment issues. Kinda sounds like an old part number is mixed in with newer ones, causing this fitment issue. Keep at it. The improved strength in steering is great peace of mind! BDGR

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

R Sounds like a Rivnut (rivet nut). Common fastener on our trucks. bdgr

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

That looks pretty slick. How did you mount the console, any special considerations or fasteners? BDGR

AM General to make JLTV'S now

I grew up near AMG, and want them to succeed, but I agree with RWH, they seem to stay in business despite themselves. I was sorry when they didn't get the original LMTV contract, so this seems like good news, but they bash together some clunky trucks now and again. I wish them the best all the...

Frozen Cannon Plug On PROTECTIVE CONTROL BOX

I look forward to hearing of a source. I tried everything but a Dremel a couple years ago and am just praying I never have a need to remove my cannon plug, cause it ain't moving. BDGR

    HMMWV 4L80E Reman Transmission

You make a strong case for me to put on my big boy pants come warmer weather FlameRed. I don’t have to do anything right now. I found this out Labor Day weekend. I’ve proven I can wait, good or bad. Thumper, I’ve been looking close to home, hoping I could find someone I could limp the truck to a...

    HMMWV 4L80E Reman Transmission

Thanks FlameRed. Retired War Horses is across the country from me, or I would have gone to see him. I agree that local work is much better to manage and negotiate. I appear to have the later, stronger 4L80E, but it has suffered from running without fluid for a while (like many, many miles at...

    HMMWV 4L80E Reman Transmission

I see I didn't answer your question about mileage. I honestly don't know. The powertrain came from Global Auto Parts Group in Kansas, arrived on an 8' pallet still attached to the frame. It definitely didn't look low miles, regardless of having been told all the units they scrapped were rarely...

    HMMWV 4L80E Reman Transmission

Well, the local rebuilder/reman warehouse refuses to even try to source a remanufactured unit because I cannot supply a standard VIN they can cross reference to assure the exact model and internal specs of the replacement. They will look at the current trans if I bring it to them to open and...

    HMMWV 4L80E Reman Transmission

Several members of the site have installed 700R4 and are happy. I was considering that route before I stumbled on a late 90's scrapped drivetrain. My 6.2L was VERY tired, so having both engine and 4SPD transmission was a bonus. BDGR

    HMMWV 4L80E Reman Transmission

The rebuilder hasn’t seen it. I’ve been making phone calls. I do agree the $7500 special heavy duty quote is extortion. Without exception everyone I’ve called had no idea what a HMMWV transmission might be so they hedge their bets. Bear in mind I can’t drive the truck to them… Knowing I have a...

    HMMWV 4L80E Reman Transmission

Many, many thanks for those clarifications RWH. I spoke to a local remanufacturer this afternoon and they said they can’t or prefer not to build pre-98, but perhaps I don’t have a 1997 even if that’s what my engine plate says. I crawled under the truck and the send and return cooling lines are...

    HMMWV 4L80E Reman Transmission

Speaking of surplus/rebuilds, does anyone know if the 96-97 Hummer H1 4L80E is a direct fit for a stock late 90's HMMWV 6.5TD 4L80E? I'm wondering about tailstock, splines, mounts, oil pan, etc. I used to know the answer but have forgotten. There are rebuilds out there for Hummer H1 and they...
