Ok, the job is done.
I had to set my heat gun on "F--- You!" and just let it blast the aluminum housing for quite a while in order to dig out the rest of the potting and the dead circuit board. (I forgot to try the acetone trick). It is impossible to remove the potting from the circuit board...
Just an update on my own personal turn signal mod-
One of my failed units is less than a year old. Using my DeWalt heat gun set at 700F, I have softened and removed the top layer of black potting goo...only to discover that underneath that, is a very hard layer of transparent potting goo. It...
There are no "glow plugs" on the NHC250. As you said, there is just the one hot plug for very cold weather starts.
The procedure on the dash data plates explains how to use it in conjunction with the hand operated fuel pump on the dash. The burning diesel pre-warms the intake chamber for...
You're saying that the reason for frequent failure of this part is because the potting breaks the connections and that there's usually nothing wrong with the flasher itself? Well that's very interesting.
I have two faulty units. They failed in different ways. I have a really wicked heat gun so...
@papakb In your very first post on this thread, how did you "gut" the military flasher? You dug that rubber square of potting out? How'd you break it free?
I've ordered the Grote flasher and I'd like to replicate what you've done.
Ok, I bought Autozone green coolant 2 years ago when I rehab'd my coolant system. It's getting on time for a coolant replacement. Can you list any brand names of pink, nitrite based coolant that I can shop for? Or do they typically say "nitrite" somewhere on the jug?
@Elijah95 How much hose and steel line is there to replace on the wrecker systems to ensure that it's safe and ready for loads?
What about the seals on the giant hydraulic pistons?
I see. I knew about the FDC in the deuces but I thought that even though the NHC250 is old that it was new enough that anything other than diesel or maybe WVO would be "verboten." As I said, I'm not looking to do this under anything other than strict emergency conditions such as major diesel...
This is really interesting. Two of you are saying that the NHC250 will run on alternative fuels. I had no idea. I'm not about to just start throwing MWO in mine but it's nice to know that it can handle it during an emergency. Do you guys have a recommended ratio of WMO: Diesel or WMO:gasoline?
Sorry to dredge this up again. Are these Smittybuilt seats high back or midback? It's hard to tell from the photo. I'm looking for neck protection in a rear-ender type of scenario.
Just keep working it with penetrant and channel locks gently.
If all else fails, try to hit the threaded ring with a dremel and cut it on opposite sides. It'll break off and you can unplug it.
Then order a new, empty canon plug and de-pin the old one and transfer the individual wires to the new...
