I bought these NOS cylinders for a halftrack. This is how they showed up. To use these, you'd have to sandblast and hone them to get all the corrosion out.
No, they're bare metal with a very thin layer of cosmoline (so thin it might as well be WD40).
I paint all the wheel cylinders I install to keep them from rusting.
The WWII halftrack takes the same 4419 as the M44 series, this is a set I just installed.
U/rustyjunk's truck had a failed dogbone and it had allowed the axle to get about 3/4" out of alignment. I used a come-along to pull the axle to where I needed it.
Yes, there is a difference.
Look at this wheel cylinder spring:
Now look at this wheel cylinder spring:
Notice how the first (top) pictured spring has straight ends but the second (bottom) is tapered on the end?
The second (bottom) spring is what's correct and what you need and it's what...
I have a friend who put 177s on his truck with the Waterloo kit. The left front did mildly rub the arm. He remounted the front tires on M135 rims which have a couple inches of offset and that took care of it. Alternatively you could adjust the axle stops but they're welded in position, so it...
Yes and yes.
Here's what we're working on. Our rally attorney and D-town have signed off on combining the rally and D-town waivers. So you're only going to have to sign off on one.
Next, the convoy. Sorry about the multiple pictures. Insurance company that covers the rally wants to make...
I've edited my original post, I no longer need an M44A2/M44A3 dual chamber air tank for my dual circuit conversion.
Much thanks to Wheelspinner who brought a set of tanks to Denton, even though his leg was messed up from major surgery.
You're doing it the right way. You're going to be a 3053 expert, or at least moderately knowledgeable when you're done. You'll be able to help other people in the hobby diagnose and repair/rebuild theirs.
It's easy to swap in a good takeout (I've done it). But one day, they're gonna' dry up...
I have some bad news. Your truck may well have been serviced or overhauled or washed at some point but that tag above only means it had seatbelts added to it.
See the 200-35 number on the tag?

One time when I had the flu, I started trying to index the site.
Like, I literally created links for topics in an index.
A: I realized I'd die before I got 25% complete
B: I realized at some point the site would update to a new style of URLs and the thousands of links would not work and all...
There's a couple things to consider: What it's physically capable of and what it's legally capable of.
The physical, I can't help with. No 1008/1028 towing experience.
The legal: I briefly looked and couldn't find a 1980's spec sheet for K30s. I suspect there was a civilian K30/6.2/4.56...
This is what happens when the button is left out altogether.
That's the bottom plate, which without the puck on top, allowed the entire knuckle to move upward, rubbing the kingpin bushing plate into the kingpin.
I'm very sorry to hear this.
Bob was one of the oldest (not in age, I mean on SS the longest) members and he went really far with his deuce and a half. Most people seem to think pressure washing it and brushing some house paint on is a "restoration".
Bob pulled his cab and bed and really went...
Couple of thoughts.....................
It is my humble opinion, informed by my total lack of a mechanical engineering degree, that the engine is insufficiently robust and turns too many rpms. A stronger crank, stronger rods, better or thicker liners and an oiling system that doesn't starve...
I have a '42 GPW and it has all the correct stuff: 4.88 gears, 6:00x16 tires, etc. Speedo is a modern repro and it reads about 10 mph low.
I know some of the repro speedos have a rep as running slow, but I'd like to verify the gears I have are the right ones. The one inside the transfer...
I really appreciate the kind comments from some of you here. Thank you.
Aolinge did PM me, I responded to him.
I am performing mechanical and restoration work still. It has grown to be a much larger aspect of my life/work than I anticipated.
Here is a little bit of what I'm doing right now...
