I found a set of 15" 6-bolt lowboy wheels at a truck salvage place. Their offset will allow use on the 6-bolt Budd pattern without rubbing.
I bought 9.00-15 lowboy tires (12 ply), they handle more weight than a 9.00-20.
Most of the time they are on a M105 with added sideboards, hauling 1.5 yd...
No. They work fine on 12V, but the internal circuit breaker may not handle the total load of a bunch of 12V lights.
Half the voltage, twice the current is how it works.
Those multipin connectors are by Bendix.
Easy enuf to restore, unscrew the retaining back shell and weasel the rubber back along the wires. Be sure to salvage the wire markers for later.
If it is stuck, a squirt of DOT 3 will help things along.
If the wires will be cut, do so and pull them...
Could be the push rod going into the MC might be adjusted too long.
That in turn won't let the piston return, and keeps pressure in the lines.
You can do a simple test: wiggle the rubber boot and see if there is a bit of free play in the rod. It only needs about 1/16" to be OK.
Some M34/M135 wheels would look & work a bit better for your truck.
Same width, OK for 12.00's, just a different offset.
I have a set if you're interested.
My '93 F700 came with 6-bolt 22.5 radial tires.
Way too much effort to repair a tire on the road for me, went with deuce wheels and highway tread 9.00-20's, as doing lockrings is much easier for me.
Sold off the radials to a neighbor.
Anyways, check salvage yards. Lots of those trucks had...
A few years ago I had an M543 wrecker. It had the 6602 gasser, ran great but was breaking me with just at 1mpg.
I repowered it with a Mack END-673T and that gave it 5 MPG.
Sold it off in the 2010's.
It is just fine the way it comes. The front drive is engaged automatically if needed.
The 800-series is the last 5-ton without the niggling electronic problems that affect operation of the later issues.
Buy it if the front drive operates as intended. A simple check is to let the truck build...
A Harbor Freight engine hoist to lift one side and block it up, then repeat with the other side, lessens the the use of a big ass and grunting.
Works for me, lol.
Hey Rusty, back to the focus here. No argument about Class 8 rigs on I-10.
But how many of us with retired tacticals run long haul?
Even in service, an OLD tactical will have less than 20K on the clock.
It took me over 25 years to get 21K on my 5-ton, and was with multiple trips from Phx to...
More & more I see semis with singles. At least 20 a day hauling trash to the local dump out of Phoenix. Just as many 7,000 gal 4-axle milk tankers as well. Lots of other O&O jobs as well.
Makes sense, as when a dual blows, it usually takes out the mate as well. Messy.
The times they are a...
