Sooner or later we won't be able to make these boost pump repairs or find good used ones. At that point we'll be looking at using FASS type inline pumps that provide at least 40psi @ 35 gph+. Luckily there are some available in 24 volt configuration that aren't too pricey.
I am glad you found...
It is a 6BT. The "T" stands for turbocharged. Being an industrial motor the governor will be set up to load sense and adjust fuel rate differently. You'll find that when you start up any hill it will actually apply more fuel than needed and you'll accelerate. Other than that it won't give you...
All arguing aside, if you want to tow a piece of light tracked armor with a deuce, you need a deuce tractor conversion or an original deuce tractor ( M246?) And one of the short single axle drop deck trailers they used with them. Model numbers are apparently escaping me today.
But a 5 ton...
You know the 545 is not equipped with overdrive, right? It's a decent pairing if you have acceptable differential gears or big tires like Hank does. Otherwise, you'll lose a lot of highway speed.
You have to use a different caliper bracket that gets welded to the axle tube instead of a bolt on bracket. It has to mount farther inboard than the existing drum backing plate flange allows.
If the headgasket is already leaking your best bet is to just go ahead and replace both headgaskets. It will fail spectacularly very soon and at a real bad time.
It isn't that that causes the binding. The binding is caused by the flex in the plate that the lever goes through. It's a tolerance seal, so just a hair of deflection causes binding. That's why it does it worse with a new o-ring, because you have more pressure pushing back against it in the...
It's not really too big, but the oil pan and pickup would require major modification. It's long enough that you won't fit an intercooler up front. Starter is on the wrong side, and so is the injection pump. They also have a lot more points of failure as far as coolant leaking into or out of...
I wonder if you might have a front axle that was meant for a V-100...
Other than a manufacturing defect, that's about the only other thing I can surmise.
I don't know for certain that V-100 axle housings had different spring perch spacing, but I can't think of anything else.
Switching to radial tires will also help some. You can probably run 35 psi with no load.
And don't be afraid to rig up some shock mounts and add some shocks to the rear suspension.
There should be a locating pin sticking out of the axle housing into the spring perches, and the spring center pins should seat in the same holes in the perches from the top. We have seen the pins on the axle tubes both rusted off and sheared off. I've also seen one that apparently never had the...
