Resistor bypass and belt squeal **FIXED**

Check the pulley on the driver side alternator. They are stamped steel and can bend out over time. The sides of the belt only should be touching the pulley. If the bottom is touching then the belt can’t work correctly. I am not entering the resistor/bypass arguments. Just stating I have 3...

    Resistor

Was your glow plug light on as well? The resistor should have current flow unless the glow plugs are on. They shouldn’t be on more than 20-25 seconds with a cold engine and 20° F outside temps.

    Correct 6.2 liter diesel temperature?

This was a 14 year dead thread. Some of the posters haven’t been here in a long time. You want to put a temperature sensor on one of the block off plates at the rear of a cylinder head and can’t find a thread adaptor? Take whatever was screwed into the hole and the sensor you want to install...

    Opinion on air filters?

I think you are correct. The non turbo 6.2 won’t take advantage of the 1-5% airflow gain the expensive filters might give you.

    Must Have's for New Deuce?

You have gotten all kinds of suggestions in just 4 hours! Technical Manuals is the best first step in my mind. Here is a video I did explaining them: After having the knowledge of how to do things to the truck. Brakes. Filters and all fluids. I like the look of the 11.00 tires. I have...

    Oil Pressure Gauge Location

The stock idiot light is supposed to light up when oil pressure gets below 8-12 psi if I remember correctly. Pretty much just enough warning while driving down the highway to not get the engine turned off in time to save the bearings. If you still have the stock block the stock oil psi spot...

    Gen 1 Issue?

The alternators have what is called “isolated ground.” Basically there are some fiber washers inside the alternator that make the case not the ground. It reads like 1 of yours got those washers installed during the rebuild while the other didn’t. I think you are going to be back at whoever...

    Thanks for the write up.

    Higher RPM knock

Torque converter bolts that are just a hair loose can also generate a knock like sound.

    Leak free CUCV

Yes, a CUCV that doesn’t leave fluids on the ground is possible. I have several that keep their fluids inside. If you have one making a puddle or a mark after just an hour. Figure out what the liquid is and where it is coming from. Then try to fix it.

Welding safely on a 24V CUCV

I just noticed you are in the UK. We could have a language problem. I know from my ‘67 Cooper S and my ‘57 MGA that “Earth” is the side of the battery connected to the chassis. I have no clue what you call the clamp of an electric welding set up. The clamp is what I was calling the “Ground” in...

Welding safely on a 24V CUCV

I think the bigger thing to worry about is the path from where you are welding to the ground. Get the ground on the same part as is being welded. Never, never make the ground path go through something that moves. Such as a bearing.

    Chevrolet 1984 K30 Dually - Restoration

This has come up a bunch. Basically it comes down to which way you want to spend money. There are many places on line and I’m sure someone local to you that can build a 700R4 to be a very dependable long lived transmission. You will have to change the input shaft on the 208 transfer case or...

Creating M1007 CUCV to be a Companion to my M1009 K5 CUCV

Looking good. As similar as the two vehicles are. They are also vastly different. The suburban has so much more room for sleeping and gear and just loves to go down the interstate. It also does very well off road. But, compared to the m1009 feels like a huge clumsy beast. The M1009 is so agile...

cover of the ventilation intake - M1009 / Chevrolet Blazer K5 Diesel

You have to pull the wiper arms. Then with the hood open you can see the bolts for the cowl panel at the top of the firewall. The wiper arms is the hard part of the procedure. Coming off and going back on lined up. Mark them somehow before hand.

6.5 Optimizer to 6.2 Differences (bolts and anything else)

No, I did not make any more. If you aren’t using a turbo. I would suggest PVC pipe necked down with a grinder that has a 135° silicone elbow like mine at the bottom. Then an open air filter element installed above the IP. Just make the PVC pipe long enough to be sitting on the bottom of the...

    Wheel cylinders in M35's

Super easy to rebuild or replace. Since so much effort is needed to get to them and I have 2 trucks. I bought several replacement wheel cylinders and a half dozen or so rebuild kits. That way I can just swap leaking ones out hole and rebuild later to always have a few ready at any time.

    M1009 Valve Cover Recommendations

A ball peen hammer has the just slightly rounded side and the smaller almost pointy side on the hammer head. If you put the valve cover, oil pan, transmission pan, etc…. Upside down on a wooden surface so the edge with the bolt holes is flat against the wood. Put the pointy end of the ball Peen...

    M1009 Valve Cover Recommendations

I like “Right Stuff” for the valve covers. Once everything is super clean, the dimples have been inverted with a ball peen hammer and I feel patient. I will lay a thick bead of that aresol pushed stuff, let it sit 10-15 minutes, set the valve cover down and just start the screws. Then after...

    My M715 'rework' project

Not that I am aware of Rory. During the Daimler-Chrysler days lawyers swarmed anyone selling anything with JEEP on it. There were several vendors selling newly built replacement M715 tailgates at the time. I know of at least one in Kingston, TN that continued to sell tailgates with no JEEP logo...
