    REO M275 truck tractor

The original lube order called for straight 30 weight oil for warm weather. However once multi viscosity oils became available the military changed to using 15W40 for these kinds of vehicles. So, to answer your question. 15W40 is fine for the engine and I would recommend its use.

M931a2 tractor unit air loss no air leaks

This could be a leaking maxi can diaphragm. With parking brake engaged start engine and built to full air. Chock the tires. Then turn off engine. Release the parking brake and then check for air leaks.

Who, if anybody, is going to Aberdeen this year?

I think the weather spooked a lot of the vendors this year. When I looked at the vendor map there were a lot of spaces that were sold, and the vendor didn’t set up. Out of the 600 spaces available I would guess over half of them were sold. Now, remember that doesn’t mean 300+ vendors, as an...

    Hauling or towing new-to-me trailer

If it were me, I would take the 16’ flat bed and trailer the load back. Just in case they didn’t want to load the trailer for you could load the trailer yourself. If you don’t have ramps, 2x12s work well for lite stuff. Two ways come to mind. Use a winch to pull it onto the trailer. The second...

Who, if anybody, is going to Aberdeen this year?

I’m getting on the road now. If you are in the area look for the XM971 semi-trailer, stop by and say hello.

Who, if anybody, is going to Aberdeen this year?

Everything has been pressure washed and fueled. Only have to pick up the steaks, ribs, potato salad, and coleslaw. Everything else is loaded. I’ll have 81MM ammo cans, a few NOS litters, goggles SWD with ballistic lenses, some large drain pans and some MOLLE pouches if anyone is looking...

    M923 turning lights issue

While it isn’t the same problem you are experiencing, it may point you in a direction to look. On one of my trucks the flashers will work on the left, but the right is intermediate. The problem is more pronounced after the truck hasn’t been used for some time. After playing with the signal stat...

    Recovering a M1061 trailer?

As already posted, as long as there isn’t any air in the air tank the brakes will be free. On a different note. The M1061 is a heavy trailer for a pickup truck. If you should have to tow it in the rain be extra careful, it will push you when slowing or stopping. I would also bring some...

dead battery and alternator charging question

The above is the best way to approach this issue. A few things to keep in mind. If you have the standard wet 6TL batteries and they are discharged more than a little, it will take an alternator a long time to fully charge them. As in maybe a week of on road driving. That is one of the reasons...

    NHC250 blows?

Coolant does wear out. Fresh coolant has an additive package that protects the cooling system from corrosion and provides lubrication for the water pump bearing. Over time the additives get used up. One way to tell is by using PH strips. The old standby method was to check the freeze...

April 27 & 28, 2019: MTA Military Vehicle Show & Swap Meet (Augusta, NJ)

I plan on being there Saturday and Sunday. Last year I brought some 120mm and 81mm ammo cans for one of the members. I brought a few extras, but as luck would have it, there was more demand than supply. So, with that said. Does anyone need me to bring any this year?

    Tank Antennas??

The only thing I could come up with is the NSN was cancelled on February 2, 1976 with a cancelled status of “Item Cancelled Without Replacement. And it is for 38-59 MHZ. Hopefully someone has an old TM for the radio it went to that may chime in.

Generator yellow then to green once warm

Something else to check is the batteries. If the batteries or a battery is getting weak, while they will still be able to start the engine, the starting will draw them down more than fresh ones. Put them on a charger, then load test them. It is an easy thing to check and eliminates a...

    NHC250 blows?

There are several things to keep in mind on this topic. When these engines were designed the antifreeze/ coolant was the old-style green stuff. That is what they were designed for and that is what the military put in them. The new ELC stuff has a completely different chemistry. While I haven’t...

A siphon gun comes in handy for tasks like this.

    Major issue after installing 16:00's

Before redesigning the truck why not figure out what the problem is? As Wes has posted something is not lining up. If you were able to separate the tires with a come a long something is loose. Look for new rust, loose bolts, and measure things. Make sure all the torque rods are the same length.

    M818 poppet valve leaking air

After awhile the O-rings wear out. To repair them is just a simple remove and replace with new O-rings. Coat the new O-rings with air tool oil before reinstalling them. For a “quick” fix. After starting the engine, depress the clutch and move the transmission into first or reverse. There...

    Major issue after installing 16:00's

Well, if a torque rod didn’t fail, why change them? What caused the problem?

Did a torque rod bushing fail?
