Some years ago, when I was in the electrical trade we would have to run cable underground in conduit. One crews job was only conduit installation. Then others would pull the cable and do the tie in. Not always, but quite often we would have to blow or vacuum the water out of a conduit before...
There are a couple of ways to bleed the brakes. Some are stupid easy, and it goes down hill from there. The easiest is with a power brake breeder. If you can find an old EIS bleeder that was the standard back in the day, Branick makes a nice one currently. They are not cheap, but they work well...
The pressure protection valve (PPV) is not allowing air to pass. It is located on the air tank. You may be able to take it apart and clean it. Or to be on the safe side replace it. NSN 4820-01-114-7543 or Bendix 279505N.
The oil pressure values don’t seem to be out of the ordinary. And if the louder sound is only during the first start of the day or with a mostly cool engine that doesn’t sound out of place either. The 6.5 injectors are noisy at first.
The last batch of, local for me, MBUs from GL came out of Chambersburg Pa. They went for $200 for eight of them. That is before fees and what not. GP has been listing them out of Chambersburg, Pa. The sale this week had a starting bid of $2500 for ten. The bid for both lots were unsuccessful...
This is just a guess without actually looking at it. The jelling is probably from the military using biodiesel. That stuff will jell after sitting, not a problem if the truck is always being run. If there was any in the tank it could have jelled, even if you had added diesel later.
The...
That is a fitting for an air line to inflate tires. Later trucks didn’t have them since they started getting air lines with a glad hand. The early BII had an air line with a fitting. The trucks we had when I was active duty were mostly made in ’62 and ’63 and had that fitting.
Diesel engines do not like dirty filters, especially when they are non-turbo charged. First thing to do is replace the fuel filter. Then take it for a drive around the block. Then do the air cleaner. When one is having a problem only change one thing at a time. That way you will know what worked...
As Simp has said keep it simple. Coolant, use plain green stuff with SCA and check it every year for freeze point and acidity. Transmission 80W/90 GL1. The newer stuff isn’t always compatible with the old soft metals in the transmission. For ease of logistics use the same stuff in the transfer...
For cleaning the transmission and transfer case just use Dexron III ATF. Just drain the fluid from the transmission and transfer case and refill with ATF. Put the transfer case in neutral, start the engine and allow it to idle for about an hour. Don’t drive it or put any load on the drive train...
Simple answer tag it as historic and go have fun.
Now for the history lesson. One guyed tagged a dump truck historic and was using it for commercial use and got caught. That’s why they changed the law so vehicles over 10,000 now have to be twenty-five years old. I know it doesn’t make any...
Well I’ll add my two-cent worth at the risk of offending some. And adding to posting in the conversations.

The truck with the blast shield is equipped with the Katyusha rocket launcher. The shields protect the cab from the rocket exhaust. The Germans referred to them as Stalin’s Organ. Most rocket artillery isn’t particularly accurate, however for area bombardment it is devastating. And since they...
With Aberdeen just a couple of days away, who is going make it?
There will be a get together both Thursday and Friday evenings. I would be useful to have an idea of who’s going to make it for planning.
I’ll be in my usual spaces, N/O 1,2, and 3. Mike, I’ll have the med boxes you were looking for. One person requested 100 81mm cans, I’m in the process of loading them now. If anyone needs any I can load some extras. I can also bring 120mm or short 40mm cans. One person requested 2 M67 immersion...
The catalogs may still list them as wet or dry, however it would be most surprising to be able to buy them dry. Some time ago the feds determined that the 6TL is an export-controlled item and cannot be sold dry. It could be shipped out of the country easier dry and has essentially an unlimited...
Box stock M54A2 is about as simple as one can get. There isn’t a protection control box, fuel solenoid or any of the new happy stuff.
Have good batteries with clean tight connections. When one turns on the master switch the fuel and voltage gauge needles should move. If they don’t, start...
