Yuck. No wonder why he towed it back.
Here is the 8.3L water pump change procedure:
1. Remove the serpentine belt
2. Remove the water pump (three 10mm headed bolts)
Wouldn't it have been easier to just throw a new belt on it where it was pulled over? I know, not nearly as much fun as dragging out and using all the other cool stuff. Also I don't know anything about the 250 engine, maybe it takes like 1000 tools to change the belt. Doesn't it have 2 belts...
Yes, FSOV is Fuel Shut Off Solenoid. It may be working, but as batteries age, their voltage when cranking drops. Starter will still work perfectly, but FSOV will close while cranking. You are unable to see this from the cab as a single person. Pull it back and zip tie it to test, or just...
I don’t, sorry. They probably don’t make them. They would be my pick if they did though.
Wonder if there would be a way to make a plate to simply double up the front shocks.
No ground at the gauge. System is simple. Voltage applied through the gauge, sender has the ground. That's it. Both of mine were bad, and that made it nearly impossible to diagnose until changed both at same time.
Whenever I'm bored, I just let the 925a2 run out of fuel wherever it happens. Provides for an evening of entertainment.
Bothering friends, working by flashlight, explaining to police what happened and why I own such a silly piece of equipment, 2,000 numb thumb pumps of the primer, opening of...
False advertising !!!! Not installed. I recommend all to do as I say, not as I do. Throw that thing in there and plug it in. Just don’t connect it to the brake system or you’ll need to wear a helmet.
Optimum solution is to use both. Fuel fired for immediate, and hot water type to maintain.
Can always just use the window or vent as a thermostat for the fuel fired. They are the cat's pajamas, when they work.
This can and does happen a lot, and there is no good reason for it to be this way.
Above posts are correct. Strongly suggest to switch to a modern civilian alternator, as it eliminates this from being able to happen again.
This is in my top 3 design flaws of these trucks:

Apology to pollute the stock 5t thread, but if you are thinking P pump anyway:
I have a Bosch P-7100 "P" pump, pump driven gear, injection lines, and intake manifold cover for charge air cooler, all removed from a 300hp 8.3L (1995 Freightliner FL70 or 80 single axle box truck). I would also...
It shows your batteries are at about 60% state of charge, and the alternator is working. The load into the batteries is more than the alternator makes at idle.
Put a battery charger on each battery overnight to see if you can bring the charge level up.
Your batteries are severely discharged (equivalent to 11.8V on a 12v battery). Recharge them fully, they need to read close to 25.6v with the truck off. 12.8v per 12v battery represents 100% fully charged, healthy battery. 12.0v represents 80% discharged (20% charge). You are even below...
It works fine for most, a few see this issue. There are a couple of variables here. Depends on the alternator load. Of course the alternator does not make 100 amps at idle. How old are your batteries? I usually ship them with the smallest pulley available, but the 100 amp Delco units are...
I have a few 350 amp rated 12v alternators if somebody is really interested. That equates to 5,000 watts. They are modern 4 bolt pad mount, so would take some decent fabrication efforts to mount onto older engines, but, anything is possible if you want it bad enough.
Everybody has a reasonable right to do what they want, think what they want, and say what they want. Agreeing to disagree and stopping there is what seperates the grown-ups.
I hope the guy gets as much $ as he can, why not right? The more he gets, the more all of ours are worth, one would...
Yes, as it was not part of the engine sale to me. I listed and sold that 6 speeder tranny on eBay. It went overseas. It was electronic, so took a lot of external modules and such to work. Had all that with it, but cal would be way off due to axle ratio and tire heigth differences.
I can't believe the luck, and stamina you have. 9.8 out of 10 people here have no issues with the 8.3L. It is pretty well hardened and proven. You are on the way to knowing more about this engine and configuration than anybody else here.
I see the military 8.3L MW pumps on ebay for...
I'll check mine, or check the TM (can't believe I'm saying that), but typically on anything with a low range, the pickup is then on the output of the transfer case. This way, the speed still shows correctly if operated in low or high range.
Modern automotive, yes, they simply take the...
