    M1088 camper conversion

ckouba, I am sorry to hear your parents had cancer and glad to hear they are doing well. I was thinking, if you are not doing a ton of winter camping, you could split the tanks. Have the majority of the water stored low and outside where it makes sense and a smaller tank inside for when you...

    Aligning the doors

Same here. I adjusted the doors some time ago, but, like you, it helped but was not perfect. I just recently tried again, my issue being that the gap at the top of the door was more than I would have liked. I ended up putting a couple (one on each of the bolts) of thick-ish washers between...

WHO' S A FULL TIME LMTV OVERLANDER, ANY OUT THERE?

This is an interesting thread, thank you for posting it. I would also love to see even part time travelers respond to it. When I saw there were 27 posts I was excited. Turns out it is mostly posts about why they are not on this thread...

    CHUCKY'S TREE HOUSE !

Chucky that was absolutely amazing. I had toyed around with the idea of what you did, but seeing you actually do it is incredible. Did you worry at all about a torsion mount? The inside looks fantastic and I love how it is almost standard construction methods (2x4 framing, spray foam, etc)...

How much space do I need in front of my truck to flip the cab?

I guess that is one way to do it. Me, I would have tilted the cab and THEN asked if I could still close the door....

How much space do I need in front of my truck to flip the cab?

It looks like it is 40". The rope in the picture is taped to the roof and goes over the center marker light. I took the measurement from the center face of the bumper to the rope. The second picture shows you that my cab may not extend all the way or in the same way that yours does. I don't...

Trading up, nervous though. Stewart Stevenson M1078 LMTV Camper Build....

No problem. I kept bothering my friend for dimensions before I got mine. Notching the tunnel might be a bigger project then you would like but you might be able to squeeze the seats in. The handrail isnt structural and if you are spry, you can get in and out without it. I know this because I...

Trading up, nervous though. Stewart Stevenson M1078 LMTV Camper Build....

The width is as it lays across the top of the seat while touching the hump. The hump is angled down, so it is a little narrower at the bottom. The seat is tan because there is a crappy, thin seat cover over the original seat. The second image is using the bolt head to hold the tape The third...

Staining or painting the floor hump mat?

Did you cut the seams on the old mat or were you able to make a template without doing that?

    Replacement seat options

20 hours. That sucks. I bought a gel seat cushion from Costco for $15 and it makes a big difference. It could be a temporary fix until you find a seat you like.

    The price of a/c

$3000 is insane. I know the Hoodliner I put on the hump made a huge difference. The hump went from warm to the touch to just as cool as any other part of the cab. That has to affect the 33,000 BTU number. Also, even if it only cools it to 80 when it is 110 out, that is a big difference. It...

Is there a consensus on cab floor sound / heat shield?

I got it off Amazon. I just looked for the cheapest price on that specific brand. It fits pretty well, I think I only had to trim off a little bit on one side. BrokeOverland's video on YouTube is really good at showing how it goes on. I have the butyl rubber on the floor on the inside and...

Is there a consensus on cab floor sound / heat shield?

When I got mine, it had the factory sound coating on the floor. I scraped that all off and found that there were several places that were rusty underneath with no visual sign (no visible rust, not bubbling of the coating). I scraped the rust off and hit it with rust reformer from Rustoleum...

    A Guy, a Dog, an M1083, and 2700 Miles

Here are my 2 cents. For the record, I drove my 1078 home to Vermont from Ft Hood, TX alone. I would stay off the highways as much as possible if you don't have the high speed gears. I always felt like a road hazard doing 55 on the highway. Tractor trailers scream by you and you are big to a...

    LMTV alternator upgrade max amps?

I always thought I would want more amps to run all the lights and what not. 1/3 the cost is a very compelling argument against it. Thank you for that.

    M1088 A0 Trans Cooler lines

I had a transmission cooler line go bad when I was bringing my truck back from Texas. A bicycle inner tube and 3 hose clamps lasted for over 500 miles. I got another one made at a local truck place and it was around $110 and they made it while I waited. It was the line that goes under the...

    Preventative maint in wheel area

I had luck passing a wire loop though the back of the brake pad onto the spring and using that to guide it into the hole. It wasn't easy, but it was do-able.

    Considering LMTV

They are insanely overbuilt. The only thing they do not over build is whatever the soldier touches. Seats, door handles, heater, all crap. Like they were mad at them. Maybe it was an Army initiative, some general saying "I want them coming out of that truck MAD" : )
