The 900 series 5 ton trucks are fairly cheap, readily available and a lot more reliable than the older deuces and 800 series 5 tons.
I have an M927A2 and I wouldn't take a skinned monkey for it.
That trailer was designed by an idiot (prob a retired Transportation Corps Officer) after consulting with a group of morons (civilians that had never driven a truck before). It was over designed and was a nightmare from the word go. To change the inner tires you had to rotate the stubby axles. I...
The M934 is huge. It has a longer wheelbase and is a lot heavier than a cargo truck.
It is also hard to manuever in the woods and is top heavy. You would not want to get it on much of a side slope.
If you ever get it stuck in a remote area you will have a doozy of a tow bill unless you have a...
IMHO the flip nose of the 900 series 5 ton trucks beats the crap out of standing on your head to work on stuff under the hood. I've had both series of vehicles and barring an MV rat rod project will never go back to the 800 series.
I'm afraid I would not have been able to overcome the temptation to do at least one powerslide on that slick floor.
When I was in Korea in 1994 the Command Sergeant Major of the Battalion caught me doing doughnuts in a HEMMT in an empty snow covered parking lot.
I thought I was going to get...
Derek Taylor (Taylortradingco on here) had a truck with an 8.3 that he is parting out. If he still has it you would have an ideal donor truck. PM me for his phone number if interested.
This is a recap of what I posted earlier. I think the only thing spoken for is the bolster trailer tire and rim.
I have a butt load of the OD green boxes I sold at the 2015 rally. They are various sizes (most of them are about foot locker size) and some have handles.
Some of them have minor...
Unless it gets blistering cold where you are at I'd use the two good batteries until they go teats up and then buy four or stick with two new ones.
I had to switch the M927A2 to two batteries recently due to two of them croaking and being financially disenfranchised.
It cranks every time.
I have a bucket of misc parts that I think has two sets of shackles for 5 tons.
Have your buddy look me up.
I'll be in the big green van trailer being pulled by a modified M927A2.
Considering the IQ of most drivers on the road today I don't think I want five gallons of fuel where some drooling moron can T-bone me and spray fuel everywhere.
Diesel fuel will explode when atomized (like being sprayed out of a fuel can being crushed). Being that close to the batteries just...
UPDATE ON TRAFFIC!!!!!!
They are putting out Public Service Announcements about road construction on I-59/I-20 (they run together from Birmingham to Meridian, MS) telling people to expect delays and use Hwy 11 (a mostly two lane road) as an alternative route).
You might want to factor this in...
I have a spare tire for a bolster trailer. The tire has good tread but is prob dry rotted. It is holding air and I think it will fit other trailers with that same bolt pattern.
20 bucks or swap for something else I don't need. It will be on the truck no matter what so first come first served...
The winch will pull the truck forward because it is rated higher than the empty weight of the truck. That's why the wreckers have the hold back spades that scotch it and keep it from being dragged when the wrecker is winching.
You need to scotch the tires and maybe put some ballast in the back...
I needs a dump truck bad.
I'm demucking my pond since the weather has been so dry and having to haul the crap out one tractor bucket at a time sucks.
It has a good hard rock bottom so the tractor hasn't disappeared yet but you have to watch out for those holes.
