Buying a M939 at auction: What to look for and to be prepared to fix

This is definitely going to be a 'slow build' type project, getting the truck, then even the basic work to it later down the road. But I may throw a want ad in the classifieds, that's a great idea!

Buying a M939 at auction: What to look for and to be prepared to fix

There's some rot-through on the hard top (but not much) on the driver's side which is kind of the top of the door jamb, for lack of a better word. Fixable though. Didn't look like it was forklifted or otherwise treated like scrap metal/was going to be scrapped. These tires are a little...

Considering a M927 or M928 to live in...

Found a M927A2 at auction whose starting bid is, believe it or not, 2400 bucks. I probably won't win it (limited budget) but if I do I might have the truck base to build from. Kinda excited, but scared. LOL.

Buying a M939 at auction: What to look for and to be prepared to fix

I imagine this has been covered before, but I couldn't find anything that answered my questions in my specific scenario with some searching. Perhaps my questions will help others in the future. I tried to make my title somewhat searchable for other people down the road who might have similar...

    IronPlanet Purchase Process Timeline/chronology

Thanks, 98G!!! So technically of course it wouldn't be street legal until I get my SF97 so I could get a title, obviously, and this one would be shipped since auction trucks are kind of a gamble mechanically. Are there any major problems I'd run into when trying to get it registered if the...

    IronPlanet Purchase Process Timeline/chronology

(Admin/mod: If this isn't in the appropriate section or is otherwise deemed inappropriate, feel free to move or delete this). So I'm looking at buying my first truck at auction, an M927A2. I've skimmed through several threads in this section but none answered my basic question. Sure, I can...

    M925A2 snow plow install

OK, stupid newbie question of the day, but could the plow be raised/lowered and the winch used at the same time, simultaneously? As in winching oneself out of a "whoops" situation while also raising the plow?

    M925A2 snow plow install

Hope you feel better soon dude!

    8.3 turbo discussion

Definitely curious how your full off road build turns out, what all will you be doing?

    My new M923 A1

It's my understanding that there's two different types/versions of 8Ds, the deep cycle version and the high cranking amps version, and each version doesn't hold up well in the other application. I live off grid and three 8Ds power my house fine for what it is, of course being conservative but...

    My new M923 A1

Looks great Russ! Too bad I wasn't there to help lift those, I have 3 powering my house and they're HEAVY! BTW, Merry Christmas!

Yep, come on up in the M923A2!

    923a2 playing around

Haha! Yeah, but haven't actually gotten to do any of that...yet. You know, full time college student and all that. But I will. Drive that M923A2 up to Alaska and visit!

    923a2 playing around

Fine looking truck! Heck yeah, go tear that deep stuff up! I know as soon as I get mine I will be climbing the "speed bumps" and in the snow and mud.

    M934A2 Expandable Off-Road capabilities

Haha! Yeah, they have the turning radius of a planet! Of course the M923/M925 does much better, they'll go all sorts of places. Would love to take mine on the trails once I get one, go get muddy. Probably the XLWB version first, then a 923 or 925 is next on my list.

    M934A2 Expandable Off-Road capabilities

As someone who is wondering about living in an M927A2 or M928A2 with a box in the bed, anyone ever take a long base cargo truck off road or mudding? Curious how the XLWB versions would fare.

Considering a M927 or M928 to live in...

Agreed, they're just plain amazing trucks, for pretty much everything! I'm glad this thread is now 7 pages long and counting for that reason. I love everything about these trucks: Their simplicity, how most things are overbuilt and the rest is just simple, along with their history, for me I...
