Yeah, I was thinking maybe they had it flipped around, but the crank snout and the torque converter bolts go into the recesses on the plate so I don’t see any way they could have done that. Does the ring gear hit the starter all the way around or just in certain places?
Hmmm, that is odd. When you said it was rubbing, I thought you meant the inside of the starter nose was rubbing the outside of the ring gear. Is it a good quality flex plate? I have heard of El Cheapo flex plates having the ring gear welded on crooked or offset in one direction. Have they tried...
Hard to say without being in the truck with you. Have you checked the fluid? Is it low, burnt, or looking like metal flake paint? Is your kickdown switch stuck? Vacuum modulators are cheap. Have you tried replacing it? They can fail and suck fluid into the vacuum line. There’s an adjustment...
Hard to say for sure without seeing it, but I’ll throw some things out. Is the shop 100% sure they have the correct flex plate? Did the starter rebuild shop machine the mounting surface on the starter for some reason? Has the tranny shop tried to shim the starter?
Hey everyone! We are very excited to announce that we will be doing a joint Steel Soldiers/MVPA Rally at the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA) on the weekend of August 10th! That is the same weekend the MVPA will be finishing up their 2019 convention in York, PA, which is about an hour...
I can’t think of his name either. One of our fellow SS members knew him and was able to contact him about selling me a trunnion. He wasn’t interested in selling that, but I never asked about the stake pocket adapters. I’ll have to go back through my old PMs and see if I can find him.
You’re doing a great job on your HMMWV resto-mod. Keep it up! Please add your vehicle info to your signature so everyone can easily see what you’re working on. Thanks for using the forum photo attachment feature versus a photo linking service. It is a bit of a PITA, but as was previously...
Gotta love axle shaft carnage! I snapped this one off in the front diff on my 1009. It was fun fishing that piece out. I saved it to remind myself to take it easy because it’s a huge PITA to fix on the side of a trail.
Good luck with your repair!
Thanks, Bruce. Up until about 2 weeks ago, we had been able to find all of the BII except for the trunnion and the stake pocket adapters. Thankfully, Kenny in WI was able to find a trunnion for me, so now we just need a set of stake pocket adapters.
Thank you, Bob. It’s a good 50 foot truck as they say. Looks like the unit it was attached to was really good at painting over rust. The fenders, doors, cab corners, stake pockets, tool boxes, and stiff leg sockets all need rust repair. Thankfully, I’m very prepared for that having lived in the...
