Ok guys, let's tone down the anti-HMMWV modification and anti-LEO rhetoric. I for one am glad to see our PD's, FD's, search & rescue's, etc getting all of these HMMWVs. It's either they get them or the scrap man gets them. If the HMMWV suits the needs of the unit and helps the guys get the job...
I haven't used one before. I didn't want to mess with the stock suspension geometry and they are $$ too. I have seen some guys running them on other sites with some success, but it does raise the exceptionally low center of gravity and makes them more tippy. I used a homemade 2.5" body lift on...
I use good ol' Dexron III in the PS system. I have the stock in-line cooler on my truck and it does a good job. The biggest problem I had was a bad accumulator in the hydro-boost. It would puke a quart or two of ATF on the ground every time I shut it down. A new booster unit fixed that problem.
Got some more work done on the truck over the weekend. I finished ripping the last of the nasty, rotten, filthy insulation pads out and vacuumed the whole truck. Then, I installed a couple of 10.3k A2 half shafts that I got from Ted. I didn't realize how bad the old A0 shafts were until I got...
I just found this cat-back system online: H1 HUMMER 4 Inch Aluminized Cat-Back Exhaust System from SSDPro-Exhaust
It would save me a lot of fab work on the back end. I would just need to make a downpipe and a cross-over pipe. No muffler of course ;) It's either use something like that or...
I'll be able to do the downpipe, but it'll be tight. It was tough getting a 3" pipe between the frame and the trans without hitting either one of them. The really goofy thing is that the adapter plate that I used to mate the TH400 puts the starter on the passenger side so I have to deal with...
Yay, new turbo! I did some more looking and man, it's going to be a PITA to squeeze a 4" straight pipe exhaust in there, especially under the trans. Should be fun... :cookoo:
It's great to be back. I'd like to thank our Admin, Patracy, our server host, Graham, and our consultants, Shane and Andre, for their tireless efforts over the last few days.
The he351cw should be here first of the week. I did some looking today to figure out what the best way will be to mount that sucker up. It looks like I am going to have to go with a 3rd gen aftermarket manifold. I thought a 2nd gen manifold would work, but it looks like that would push the turbo...
Cool! I found a take-off unit for around $250. I think I will get it and use it for mock-up. I'm glad to know you can eliminate the solenoid and cross-over linkage. I'll definitely talk to your buddy about the brackets, etc... Thanks.
I'd have AC if I lived in the deep south too! It's usually not too bad here, especially in an open vehicle with air moving around.
I am pondering what to do about my turbo situation today. My goofy Ford manifold has a crack in it so I will be replacing it. It is similar to the 3rd gen...
Mike,
No need to replace the entire unit, just the filter. The separator can be re-used if it is in good condition. NAPA auto should be able to cross the filter number to Wix or something else.
The complete procedure for your mechanic is covered in paragraphs 3-32 and 3-33 in the TM...
I traded my F350 off on another car so the HMMWV is the only truck I have for now. I am planning on installing high-back seats front and rear so I can haul the whole family when needed. I am going to run it door-less and topless (except for the 2-man top). Basically like an oversized jeep...
PS, I've driven it to work the last couple of days and to my kid's soccer practice and it has been a real hoot to watch the reactions of other drivers and pedestrians. :cookoo:
