    Two silly oil change questions...

I'm not so sure starting it and warming it is a good idea. Despite the fact that coolant reaches operating temps, without a load on it the internal components don't really get hot. In generators, this practice causes wet stacking. My MV's also hide from salt over the winter. I put them away...

    24 Volt battery maintainer?

Which one did you use from Amazon? What did it do?

Geared hub drain plug removal advice

Im I'm reluctant to use a welder for this. You never know where you might manage to arc across a bearing or between gear teeth inadvertently and introduce a point for accelerated wear.

    Batteries

Best? Hawkers, and by a large margin. Best, when you factor in cost? Any decent battery will suffice.

    Fire extinguisher size?

I think it's smaller in diameter than my bracket is designed for. I've used fire extinguishers twice in my life. 2.5lbs is really insufficient for the task. We carry 2.5kbs x2 in the gladiator now, since i used the single 2.5 pounder last summer. My HMMWV needs one. I'd like to find one that...

    Differential options

Emphatically this! I like selectable lockers. But the stock M998 when used with compence won't get stuck due to lack of a locker. I contemplate a Detroit locker for the mid axle on my M925, but again, I've had it in soupy mud spinning all 6 16.00's. I doubt I'll encounter a situation where...

    Fits the existing bracket?

    M920 running used oils

Some of the abrasives in used oil are smaller than 2 microns and will still do damage. I wouldn't do it.

    Rear winch suggestions

You could also power it by going to the slave port. Although an Anderson SB350 connector is less expensive than a slave plug. May as well use 2/0 (or even 4/0) cable.

    Are all good trucks gone?

It just takes two people to run bids up. A common mindset among the naive is "the other guy knows what he's doing. I really want this truck, so I'll bid until i get it. I know it won't go more than a bid or two too high, because the other guy won't go beyond reasonable value. So even though i...

    Current M35A2 value?

Note that GVWR and GVW aren't the same thing. GVWR is unalterable and is assigned by the manufacturer. It's what the vehicle is capable of weighing, fully loaded. If the law is triggered by GVWR, then there's not much that can be done. GVW is what the vehicle actually weighs and varies...

New Electric HUMMER (GMC) - costs over $100 to charge?????

Good ideas succeed on their own merits and don't have to rely on coercion. The fact that the EV is being forced, is prima facie evidence that it isn't a good idea. And there are many good arguments supporting EV, but I'll be damned if I do it simply because it's being pushed.

    Current M35A2 value?

I'm one of the guys with a deuce who wants 5ton prices for it. Not rusted, dual circuit brakes, multifuel engine, 395's on aluminum MRAP rims. $17k. Your $10k deuce turned into $26k pretty fast.... My preference is the 939series truck with airbrakes and NH250, but the good deuces are getting...

Slave plug for MEP genset - cost effective options(?)

I make them. 12v/24v, alligator clips or slave plug. I've got a couple in KS but I won't be there for months. It charges through the slave port at 4 amps and then drops to a trickle as the batteries become charged.

Slave plug for MEP genset - cost effective options(?)

But there's no reason not to use all four even on low amperage slave starts. It'll only draw the amps it needs. (Or am I missing something?)

Slave plug for MEP genset - cost effective options(?)

I do the same with my wrecker. I don't use it enough to justify buying batteries for it, so when I need it I just slave it from one of the other trucks (and leave the cable connected)

Slave plug for MEP genset - cost effective options(?)

I speculate that this idea came from the fact that the voltage regulator on some of the trucks will malf and fry the alternator unless there are good batteries in the loop. They applied this to all military diesel engines. (And I wasn't sure either way until Dewie's post)

What am I getting into with an auction truck?!

It's a complete roll of the dice. What's your tolerance for risk? Me, I consider it recreation and entertainment. I'm willing to sift through a dozen trucks to find the "keeper". Other people want to buy once and be done.

Slave plug for MEP genset - cost effective options(?)

I have them and sell them. I've got about a dozen left, at which point I've got no way to get more short of exorbitant prices. I also make slave cables. I've got the hydraulic crimper and heat shrink to do it right. I make them with 1/0 and 2/0 copper cable. The problem is they're in KS and...

TIER II Reset tag removed - MEP802A

But only the knowledgeable can differentiate the now-nontagged reset genset from a unit that wasn't reset. If you know, you can get a LEAD genset at "regular" price.
