What exactly are you used to using?
Mine are more than adequate.
I tow my M101A2 trailers a lot and their fine to back them up with.
Their better than my wife’s 2021 Chevy Trail Boss
Pickups mirrors.
You could go with the large camping/towing mirrors that were available and are reproduced...
These rims aren’t the best.
Didn’t realize that someone used a hammer on them until after stripping them.
The backs weren’t rusted so I’m not sure why the beating.
Oh well…….
Character and they were almost free.
If the green wheels look stupid, super easy to paint black.
I’ve seen the green...
Painted wheels for newest M101A2.
383 Green on face and rest of wheel is flat black. (Black paint applied after pic).
I know they’re supposed to be all black but want to see how this looks on mine.
Easy to fix if I don’t like the overall look.
Tan trailer is going back to green.
Will have a...
Painted wheels 383 green.
The green zinc chromate is really close to 383 green.
Rest of wheel painted flat black.
Will let the paint set up for a few days before installing new clamp valve stems and new tires.
The Military issue cargo nets for most US vehicles/trailers are called Load Tamer.
If you watch eBay, sometimes they show up NOS for a really good price
I still have a NIB one for my former 5 tons and have two (1 for CUCV and 1 for M101A2 Trailers) left.
They work well and are very well made...
M101A2
Painted the original issue Jack handle brick red.
It’s not tactical, but practical.
Stripped old coating off rims and sprayed green zinc chromate primer on front and back.
Once fully dry (takes 48 hours) will paint them either CARC green or black.
Did front gate modification. So...
The acid worked like a champ
Took some light scrubbing in spots, but it worked well.
Applied zinc chromate primer and will paint them CARC green or black in a few days.
Welcome to Steel Soldiers!!!!
Unless you plan on driving it on the highway a lot, I would just buy a spare.
You can still buy new NDT tires
I have a M149A1-2 water trailer and it still has the original wheels.
I tow it around ranch and use it quite often in the warmer months.
The larger...
I picked up two Chevy rims for a M101A2 trailer.
They’re white in the front and looks like coated steel in the back.
The coating almost seems like a porcelain finish and is very hard.
Definitely not powder coated.
Seems to chip rather than scratch.
Question is, How do I get paint to stick to it...
Someone knew it was like that.
The grease, what little was still in the hubs, didn’t have any chrome bearing flakes or debris in it at all.
I mean zero.
Weird.
This is a textbook example of why you should always check the bearings on any auction trailer you buy.
Installed new bearing sets and seals today.
Also new nut retainers.
The Races are some of the worst I’ve ever seen.
Bearings are toast also.
Amazing it was allowed to get this bad.
Highly recommend towing the trailer either completely full or completely empty.
Without internal baffles, the water can really sprout momentum.
I did the “slosh cruise” on a backroad and at slow speeds. You could really feel the water move and it was a bit spooky and it was half full
More...
Replaced a faulty Blackout front bumper light.
Was intermittent and had a short inside I assume.
Installed new one and all work great once again.
I know they’ll never be really used, just like to have everything on truck working correctly.
