Best bet is to take them to a boat upholstery and replace them. You will not get the results you're looking for trying to save the old ones. I've tried and wasted a lot of time. How is the stitching for the zipper? The thread they used for the zipper was not adequately UV protected. Real...
Is it a key switch or the military switch?
When it makes the noise what is the voltage gauge doing?
Does it make the noise with the switch in "run" but the engine is still off?
When you went to start it earlier did the glow plug light come on and run as normal?

The extension comes in real handy when it comes to hooking up a trailer. I have the class three hitch hooked up to the original location on the airlift bumper and have a 10" drop Alumistinger hitch.
With this combo I can hook up to just about any trailer with ease. .

Take baby steps. Check each plug (still in the engine) with a meter to see if they are still viable. If the plugs are good it is more than likely the box is having issues and is very common. Many of us keep a good spare box around just for these issues.
I put in a new set of plugs (PITA) only...
And you think the later models are "fast" ? I would love to have a turbo along with a least a four speed but oh well. The GM v8 diesels are a poor engine to begin with as time has told. The Cummins 6 cylinder offerings is a far superior engine but a rather costly conversion for the HMMWV. I...

Mine has been on my trailer for seven years and counting. One mod I do to keep it from sagging between the hoops is to use 1/2" shock cord tied from one hoop to the other. I have three rows like that and it keeps the tarp tight.

I know exactly what you are talking about. The duct fabric is a hell of a lot more durable than the thinner vinyl product. From the looks of the pics of the cover for sale in question to me it shore looks like the duct fabric. Real hard to come by in green color these days.

If the starter is not shimmed properly the bendix gear could get jammed on the flywheel teeth and that could cause the issue. Was it trying to engage when you first hooked up the batteries or the first time you turned the lever to start?

I'm just not in that much of a hurry. My MAX speed on the highway is between 60 and 62mph with my three speed. Any faster and it sounds like all hell is breaking loose .
