I’d like to see a thread dedicated to this. It seems so many problems come from the batteries and associated components that could be eliminated as you state above. Going to a battery bank and step down to run the 12v side seems like it would be the way to go.
I recall watching an old video, like WWI style where the subject was unstucking a truck with a winch. The anchor they used was brilliantly simple to me. It was a chain rated for the pull it was laid on the ground and every few links they drove a stake through the chain probably 4’ deep or so...
Very nice update. I like the extra blinkers, and yes it’s my experience too that nobody can see the stock units flashing.
I was working lights yesterday as well. I added bed work lights and reverse lights too. Both are a big help!
Errr, From what I recall reading about the transmission…. When the PTO is engaged the trans controller locks up the converter clutch to cut the converter to eliminate slipping and heating the trans.

From past experience….. and not necessarily on these trucks. But as control knobs go, if it has an Allen set screw, loosen it. If a knob doesn’t have a set screw it’s friction fit and you just pry it off.
Just be gentle! They’ve been there for a long time.
Sounds like a good place to repurpose an old school rotary switch to enable functionality between programs. That way it would break power before restoration to the selected circuit. I’m sure someone will come up with a much cooler solution.
Is there a write-up somewhere that covers replacement and updating to JIC? Sizes, fittings etc? I don’t have problems yet, but would like to start collecting the parts to have on hand for when it does.
