While it is cranking but not starting, are you getting any smoke from the stack? A total lack of smoke should indicate a lack of fuel flow through the injectors, and we can go from there. I am operating under the assumption that the truck is cranking with sufficient speed and isn't suffering...
Assuming the hoses are not bypassing the t-stat, its possible the t-stat is stuck open, or the heater core or fittings could be plugged. OP, does your rig get up to running temp ok? If it does, once at temp, check the temperature of the hoses going to the heater. since there are no shutoff...
I cant say for sure, but in your picture it almost looks like the heater supply and return valves are at least partially closed. Those things where the hoses attach to the engine look like petcocks, but they are actually valves. Make sure those are threaded fully out so you get flow through the...
I'd be interested, if only there weren't quite a large continent to cross...
Maybe there is a museum/ historic railroad/ antique engine club in the area who could find a use for it? That looks like the sort of compressor that would do well cold running preserved steam engines, cleaning out...
I've seen those multiplier sets before and they look really cool. I am a little leery of them in situations like I'm plowing through, though. I have this feeling that pure torque would have started snapping stuff, considering how over tight they were. Heat and beat lessens the chances of that...
Thanks for the thread link, Ill check it out. One of my crew is a big Milwaukee guy and swears by their impacts. We have DeWalt tools on site, and they do the job, but not always as well as they should. I'd kinda like to go air so I can keep it with the truck and run it off the onboard if need...
Started in re-sealing my rear hubs today, one stated to weep the last time I drove it. With absolutely nothing sealing the keyway, I'm not sure how it hasn't been leaking for the last 10 years or more but its been dry and running cool. I say 10, since I know the previous owner never had them...
Here is the first pic I took of it, just before i drove it out of the pit it had been sitting in for nearly ten years.
I usually split 2-5, though you can split 1st if you want. Its a very flexible system, much more so than a RR. While I'm not sure, I don't think it came with front brakes...
Since you're familiar with Detroit nomenclature, you'd probably like our old one at my work: a 16V-149TTBA! Talk about an ear splitting roar!
Driving a split rear is actually very pleasant, its effect is almost identical to split shifting a deuce using the transfer case. I preselect the axle...
I almost bought a pilot house Dodge years ago, but it wasn't complicated and loony enough, so I bought a last year (56) V8 Packard with torsion-level instead... I like Packards, Dodges, Deuces and Diamond Reos, lack of parts is just a sad daily reality! I have thought about going the electric...
I'll have to see if I have a picture of her back when she was still done up and running. Its alarming how time can fly. Sadly, in a way, the engine in it is in fantastic internal condition. I tracked down its last 'real' owner, who rebuilt it with "just about the last full rebuild kit on the...
I'll bet a 7.3 idi, or 7.3 'stroke if your keen on wiring, would be great candidates for an f600.
Having driven around a lot in a big gas medium truck (1969 Diamond Reo C101), I can totally see wanting to get away from the original gas motors. Its a little bittersweet, but my plans for...
Dunno if it belongs here, but I'll take a stab at answering anyway.
AFAIK, Ford only offered v8 configuration engines in those year 600s, either the big gassers, the 8.2 detroit 4 stroke, or the cat 3208. Ive seen one or two big f series with 2 stroke Detroits, but not many. Those are some...
Not exactly the same engine, but I had an old 12v Cummins that would occasionally stumble out if you went from heavy load to curb idle in a snap. I've also seen some pulling trucks do it. I can tell ya its not unheard of...
One or another of the fuel governing devices snapping to full close(or...
Maybe it was a depot or pre-surplus sort of mod to replace an older/ obsolete/ NLA air manifold with off the shelf truck parts. In ops pic it doesn't look like it or the lines are secured much, maybe they just wanted to get some more trucks moving?
Maybe some A3 guys can chime in if their truck...
Those bases should work just fine, as long as you size it and the filters correctly. You really only need two filter units installed: a water separating primary filter and a finer main filter. I run 2 micron main filters on all my other trucks, I think the spin-ons on my deuce are 10 micron, and...
I'm not familiar with the A3's, but that looks like a later addition, modification or repair, since push lock fittings were not around when these trucks were built. If you follow a few lines, it should give us a good idea.
Could it be for a home brew axle vent or fording kit, distributing air...
