what color is the smoke? White, blue, black and how heavy is it? Is the smoke steady or does it puff with the miss? How do your fluids look, are you losing oil or coolant?
So your engine is using/ losing lots of oil, but you drained over 7 gallons? If I have that correct, then you have some other problems than just the leak. "Making oil" is not an unheard of occurrence when internal fuel system seals go bad and start dumping large amounts of fuel into the...
Would any of the guys in this thread with spare engines hanging around be willing to tear into a water pump? I was reading that other thread that got bumped up and it doesn't look like anyone knows how rebuildable they are/ what bearings and seals are in there...? The price of them is going up...
For sure I've heard that about the military as well! I'm not surprised to see that parts have been changed for exactly the reasons you mentioned; I'm really curious as to why there are different versions of the same parts in the first place.
No I haven't tried calling them, I'm not sure how...
Yeah, I have to go look at my dipstick to get a handle on how much 'one quarter' really represents, but definitely too much for a days driving. We might be seeing two different oil patches, the haze on the starter from the tube, as well as another leak in the same area.
OP, you might consider...
Hello all, this post should reveal that I don't know much about the background of these trucks...
Since I've had a fair bit of time to look at things lately, between this site, google and my own truck, I noticed that there are minor variations in some of the controls in the cab of these trucks...
looks list mist blowing back from the vent tube all over the starter anyway. Should there be an extension tube to take that vent down lower? Maybe that rubber extension tube fell off?
Thanks, I kinda thought so, but like I said, I'm new to this specific pump/ engine myself. I think loosening those lines would still give us/ OP a final confirmation if anything at all is getting where it needs to go?
Just so that everything is clear, have you bled the high pressure lines up at the injectors on top of the engine? You have fuel getting to the pump, if you can confirm there is nothing getting to the injectors, then either something in the pump internally is holding the fuel control off or...
Other way around, the airflow is fully open and limited purely by how much can fit through the intake piping and passages. The quantity of fuel injected and the time at which it is injected is controlled by the fuel injection system. All diesel engines operate in this manor, though the systems...
Just a little more background for you OP:
The reason that can says 'not for Diesel', and the reason guys say not to put anything in the intake is because it can cause the engine to overspeed or 'run away', probably causing total engine failure, or at minimum a very scary event...
The reason is...
The lack of consensus has left me a little reluctant to change the trans oil in mine, but I eventually picked up some ND 30wt from tractor supply. Its on the list to be changed within the next few weeks. My '70 shifts ok as a rule, but a bit slow when cold especially that 1-2 shift. Mine has...
Im glad to read that somebody has used composite with success for the isolator strips! I'm getting close to putting the bed on my '70, and doing what I can to avoid rust and rot. Even if it were to fail after a few years, I'd much rather swap the strips than deal with even a speck of preventable...
Kaiser, Its a long time since you asked but, at least on later civilian Gold Comet engines, yes a big block chevy block off plate will fit, as will, interestingly enough, the electric fuel pump mounting bracket from a 98.5-2002 Cummins as found in Dodge pickups. The stock 24 valve Cummins...
