I'm going out on a limb here but I think the designers were thinking that using the front winch with the transfer case engaged would be good for self recovery operations. Making it necessary to power the rear hydraulics would be useful if the wrecker was parked, transfer case was in neutral...
Sir,
I am inquiring to the position of your transfer case shifter next to your parking brake lever. In your first post you indicated that the transfer case is in neutral which would be slightly raised off of the floor. In this condition, there is nothing to stop the internals from the...
Have you tried to engage as Smitty pointed out? In your first post, you indicated that your transfer case is in neutral. The transmissions internals need to be stopped to engage the pto which is why you were able to engage it with the truck shut off.
Sir, glad to have you along for the trip. Took the 923 for a run today and it did fine. About 40 miles of driving and $75 paid at the pump. Went from 1/4 to 3/4 of a tank with that fill up but wished the pump didn't cut me off there, I would have filled it up to the top. I did manage to pass...
The front axle may appear to be on because the driveshaft turns constantly anytime the truck is moving. Only way to actually turn it off is with the use of locking and unlocking hubs like a typical 4X4 truck has. All the air engage / disengage accomplishes is disconnecting the front driveshaft...
Putting this out there for anyone else who may be in the local area. I'm going to the GA Rally and plan on departing around 0800 on the 20th. So far it looks like a convoy of 3 M35A2's and 1 M923A1. If anyone else is local and would like to ride along, let me know. We do have a towbar...
A factory transmission with overdrive would have been the 700R4. The only electronically controlled circuit was the torque converter lockup. Two options, wire in a toggle switch to engage lockup or place a check ball on the top of the solenoid to bypass the solenoid. It locks up the converter...
Mr. Higgins,
Respectfully, why do you need a trans with an overdrive? In M1009 trim, they do just fine on the highway and interstate going 70 plus mph. The M1009's have 3.08 gears. The rest of the CUCV crowd likes to upgrade because we have 4.56 gears as supplied and running 55 mph down the...
I love the sound of a good running 6602 and luckily get to hear one running strong once a year. A member on here brings his M51 winch truck to the GMVR each year and I get to ride in it from time to time. He goes through the rough stuff, winches stuff out on occasion and blazes new trails via...
We encounter this quite often in the National Guard. Trucks sit for a month without any loving and the batteries become run down. A quick jump start usually does the trick in this scenario. Leave the vehicles hooked together for a while. If the batteries are really low, the truck will do one...
Check your axle vents to ensure they are functional and sealing when not venting. Take them out and attempt to suck air from the axle side. Stay away from water more than about 4 foot deep and enjoy. If you spend much time in the water, you will be in for a treat as all 6 hubs will need to be...
I give Commendation to Mr. John (Hase?) who mans the site at the Swift Trucking yard just south of MCLB Albany, Ga. He has been a tremendous asset and a friend. He may not realize it but I have told him the horror stories of doing pickups for members on here who purchased stuff when GL had the...
My Deuce had a new in 1992 Hercules in it. The truck was a 1971 and no data tags or stenciling that would indicate a rebuild of any kind during its life. Last using unit at 1-145th AVN on Fort Rucker and it likely spent the great majority of it´s life in that Aviation Battalion. Clinto bought...
If anyone is considering hauling these, please keep in mind that you're going to need at least two straps per trailer to keep the roof down in the front. It's a hinged arrangement that opens up to provide shade for the work surface on the rear of the trailer. Originally, there are rubber...
Leg one of the journey is sorted out. I will pick these up during my lunch break and haul them behind my Silverado over the next few days. That will allow the OP ample opportunity to sort out shipping. Turns out the truckers are quoting above 2K to haul them and he has paid less than that to...
Not sure how I missed this request. If they are still on base, I can help get them off and move them to my front yard until you get shipping arranged. 229-364-2842, Joseph.
