@rickdavis81 just mentioning that one wants an LDS that is a thick deck (TD lettering cast into the block near the data plate) as a candidate to really turn up the power.
The older regular blocks may not like the increased pressures and blow the head gasket or warp.
Also, a gauge for exhaust...
The little mushrooms? They have a crimped-on cap that you can carefully un-crimp with a small screwdriver. Inside is a - booooiinnnggg, there it went, never to be seen again - small spring and a rubber disc. The stuff is clean-able; I would likely use something non-sticky rubber friendly. I just...
A few thoughts here.
The Mitsubishi has full lockers in both axles. You can see that clearly with the front axle; the tire that has grip on the rock and the tire that is in the air both spin at the same speed.
A Deuce off-road will benefit from three lockers, ideally air actuated so you have...
Not sure about the Spicer in the 5ton but in the 2 1/2 ton the shaft conveniently sticks out in reverse so it is possible to mount the same momentary switch (any starter switch will do) that @Wreckclues uses in the cross member under the floor. Same functionality but more discreet.
For stop...
The rubber in the axle vents can become sticky as it ages and the vents won't vent so good anymore. You can use a 1/8 NPT hose barb instead and run a hose up to the frame with a cheapo in line fuel filter at the end to keep water out and let it vent freely. Just a thought. Pressure buildup in...
I am glad @SUBARUMAFIA you got the spring brake chamber caged and the "pancake" on the service brake chamber replaced. The push rod on a new chamber is over length and needs to be shortened for your application. The instructions on "how to" either come on a sheet with the new pot or are...
Mack 5 tons got the ENDT-673 diesel engines. HP ratings in the low 200 (225?). I saw a Mack 5ton converted to a brush truck that starred in a tv show. The truck was mint, the ENDT sounded awesome and the truck had upgrades such as armour plate at the bottom to be able to drive hard in rough...
Wild that we obtain a 72 year old vehicle and set out on getting it running and "back into service" for another life of adventure! We sure have set the bar high for the trucks we "play" with. So many other vehicles get scrapped and crushed after one single, measly life!
WOW, have to come visit next time I am up Hwy17!!
And, yes, I do like them original-ish. Some improvements are good, though. :-)

@m715mike My wife says I can buy another MV or truck, but it needs to have a sleeper so I can be comfortable. There is a hidden threat in that, but I have not quite figured it out..... ;-)
PLEASE go and do as @KN6KXR recommends. It eliminates the hydraulically operated switch as a failure point for the single circuit hydraulic brakes as well. The OEM switches can break the bakelite/composite center and leak brake fluid.
Converting to an air pressure switch on the air side is not...
I never understood that design although I am being told it was not unusual at the time.
If one wanted to have the wheel bearings oil lubricated (as they are in a modern truck) the whole "diff gear oil runs outboard through the axle housing and lubricates bearings" stuff makes sense.
If one...
Of course, in my neck of the woods with plenty of soft ground (either wet earth or sand) I can get stuck more quickly than saying "Don't you f#$% get stuck!!!"
Not being able to grab any solid ground is usually what does it in. Once it is sunk, it is pretty much game over. I agree that airing...
Good job on documenting your adventure, @appalachiantraildeuce
You said that you "don't know what you are doing". The military has a solution for that! For your waterpump job, grab the Technical Manual

I would add "air in the lines" to the list. Probably the second thing I would do after verifying brake adjustment is to simply re-bleed the brakes (including air pack!) and then re-assess. It is a long truck with loooong brake lines and air bubbles can hide away for a long time.
