    My new project (M1009)

The cold high idle plus timing advance is a normally closed thermal switch. Much like a coolant thermostat, it uses a wax motor which on melting, expands. In this case, the expansion opens the switch. It can fail, the smallest leak of wax will keep contacts closed. Rock Auto has them for 58...

    M1008 Snow Plow Set Up

You can get 24 volt hydraulic pumps from snow plow manufacturers. Half the current draw and half the wire diameter.

Sounds like a misfire please help!

Combustion chambers wet with diesel will give abnormally high pressures on compression testing. Some diesel will burn due to pre chamber turbulence. Diesels typically have little manifold vacuum but worn valve guides can get oil seeping into the valves overnight.

Sounds like a misfire please help!

Did you disable the injection pump by removing the pink wire? Because that oil would be diesel with soot. The glow plug and injector are in the precombustion chamber, a small spherical chamber in the head. The injector sprays onto the glow plug which induces a swirling flame in this chamber...

Here We Go Again Low Voltage M1009

.005 amps is 5 milliamps, the battery has 80-100 amp hours capacity at 1/20th draw rate (4 to 5 amp draw). 80 divided by 0.005 is 16000 hours or about 670 days. Self discharge is a greater rate.

Here We Go Again Low Voltage M1009

Batteries can have self discharge, internal and external. Charge fully and disconnect, measuring voltage over a few days. Remember that voltage will be high fresh off the charger but should stabilize to 12.8 volts after 24 hours for flooded types and as high as 13.2 for AGM.

    Tach for CUCV

The alternator tach signal is a roughly sine wave alternating current with frequency between 215 Hz at idle to 1239 Hz at 3600 RPM. The rotor of the 27 SI alternator has 16 poles, 8 North and 8 South. The crank pulley is 7.75 inches in diameter, the alternator pulley is 3 inches. This makes...

Sounds like a misfire please help!

Ouch. Could be assembly error and they contaminated the valve with fingerprints, causing surface rust. This valve should be very free to move with the cover off. It should move with the throttle shaft. At idle, it needs to be slightly open and easily closed with finger pressure simulating...

700R4 Transmissions Swap and Gearing Questions for M1008

Detroit Locker in the front makes for some handling quirks. M1031 and M1028s came with friction disk type limited slip as even these have a little squirrely handling. I drove my M1031 about 70 miles during the February 2021 snow Armageddon..I needed 4wd often, keeping hubs locked and shifting...

700R4 Transmissions Swap and Gearing Questions for M1008

Overdrive would be a tad steep for 33 inch diameter tires. 2000 RPM at 70 MPH so expect shifting out of OD.

700R4 Transmissions Swap and Gearing Questions for M1008

Yes, 3.73 axles with 700R4 is close enough to equal as 4.56 axles with THM400. 11.4:1 vs 11.3 first gear ratio X axle respectively. You won't notice the difference.

700R4 Transmissions Swap and Gearing Questions for M1008

700R4 has a deeper 3.06:1 first gear ratio so it is about identical with 3.73 axle as the THM 400 2.48:1 with 4.56 axles. Now the OD with 3.73 axle is very steep for stock engine torque and tires over 33" in diameter.

    CUCV Turbo 400 transmissions

The answer is in the parts manual, TM 2320-289-34P. Parts specific to certain models have a Usable On Code (UOC) on the part identifier. The case has no UOC, part number 8627996, figure 75, item 5. Assembly is part 8655111 on figure 71, item 6. No UOC. So all THM400 transmissions are...

    re-using a torque converter

Filtered oil circulates in the TC, no locking clutch so they don't get trash in the Torrington bearings or sprag clutch. Reuse of a THM400 converter is less risky than any other.

Rebuilding after 15 years of storage

Great plan! That is my eventual goal on my M1031. It has a rare NP205 with 90mm input bearing and long 32 spline female. What makes it odd is the figure 8 mating flange. I have the correct adapter, just trying to find a good transmission.

    Stalls Intermittently

If the cold idle solenoid is turning off too fast, the thermal switch is easily swapped. If the solenoid isn't working with 12 bolts to the green wire, it is also swappable. If the solenoid is functioning but cold idle is too slow, it can be adjusted. IIRC, the thermal switch should shut...

Round pattern 205 with 32 spline long input? Will that work with the stock 208 adapter?

gen 1 light not coming on.

13.x volts at the battery with engine running means either a weak alternator, discharged battery or bad connection. With key switch on, engine not running, you need battery voltage at both regulator connections on the side of the 27SI alternator. These circuits are the dash lamp (excite...

    Stalls Intermittently

Fast idle solenoid is external of the IP, front and to drivers side. Since cold start has fast idle, the only conclusion would be the thermal switch is cutting out too fast or warm idle speed is too low.
