    Never ending front brake problems

Brake hoses can collapse and cause dragging brakes.

    Question; M1009 CB Power Wiring

That only means it can only be powered by the front battery.

    Cucv has bad surging issues

Sounds like a sticking metering valve. Idle speed is governed as well as top speed. The idle speed spring is very soft and this spring opens the metering valve. The valve is closed by the governor centrifugal force. With key on, engine off, there is no governor force and the idle spring is...

Sounds like a misfire please help!

Try some Diesel Mechanic in a Bottle. The button seals can be replaced without IP removal. If the button sticks, it messes the timing and this is probably the issue. Timing sounds correct at idle. If it still stumbles with the pin free, you need an overhaul IP. Some rebuilders do the...

Sounds like a misfire please help!

I sense this was a depot rebuild of the injection pump. There are 3 levels of maintenance, unit level like company or battery which is covered in the -20 TM, direct support which is battalion or brigade covered in the -30 and depot which is covered in the -40. Most TMs are multiple level, the...

Sounds like a misfire please help!

If the timing is stuck, it is because of wear in the aluminum housing. Some rebuilders machine and sleeve the bore. Because you have a 4521 pump, it was probably a government shop rebuild and the TM doesn't cover sleeving the cylinder when worn. The photo on the first page looks like...

    NP208 Rebuild

Can you feel it with a fingernail? If so, it will leak.

Sounds like a misfire please help!

From the second video, I hear diesel clatter and a lot of it. Timing may be stuck, this happens with wear in the aluminum case. Does the engine smooth out at idle when the light load advance button is pushed in? Use a long screwdriver as this is on this bottom passenger side of the IP.

DB 2829-4521 is a CUCV IP. Specifically, a 1.2 centi Stoke JP8 rated pump for 1986 calibration. It is a 12 volt unit. It is a replacement unit as 1986 came with a 4520, the only difference being the low viscosity wear parts. Since the vehicle is a 1984, the original pump used the flex...

    M1008 Build

Many thanks..soldering radiators is more art than technique. Clean metal and tight joints is the technique, heat application is the art.

    Question; M1009 CB Power Wiring

Either battery works direct connection as long as the device has isolated negative to chassis. Modern automobile electronics have isolated ground to negative due to the predominantly plastic interiors. Test with multimeter in ohms mode. You are looking for OL or no change on the meter. If...

24 Volt Buss to 12 volt Buss part unknown need help

The bottom is the negative bus. The device connecting the two is a radio frequency snubber, three capacitors paralleled. This device absorbs high frequency noise from the starter when brushes contact new pads in the commutator. Only needed to prevent radio frequency interference.

    M1008 Build

I've been repairing radiators as needed, it isn't easy to perfect the skills. First is desoldering tank to tubesheet and these are huge tanks. Too much heat damages the core, I've yet to find a source for new cores. An ash vacuum works well but not OSHA approved, lead dust caution here...

    M1008 Build

Blue Devil radiator flush is trisodium citrate, it only works when hot and flowing. Using just citric acid will cause significant metal loss. It takes time, I left the Blue Devil flush in the system for a week of driving. And still had sediment after 2 flushes so I installed a coolant filter...

Sounds like a misfire please help!

If the engine sounds like it is missing, it is a cylinder problem, not injection pump. This IP is a distributor type with only one pumping element all cylinders. Compression testing can show weak cylinder. A stuck valve can appear as a miss if the push rod drops out.

Here We Go Again Low Voltage M1009

Sounds like corrosion or dirt between the cable end and steel body or engine.

Here We Go Again Low Voltage M1009

What do you want to spend? Klein has a great clamp type DMM with voltage leads, it works great for rough current measurements with AC and DC, about $150. I've been using Klein for 10+ years.

Here We Go Again Low Voltage M1009

Most digital voltmeters have a 10 ampere limit due to leads. Not too useful for automotive use. I have a 1 milliohm shunt resistor for measuring current, it is built from a length of 10 gauge solid wire. To use it, it is put into the circuit in series, setting the voltmeter across it in...

    Alternator driven diesel tach?

One more note on tach calibration..regardless if you use magnets attached to the damper pulley or Hall Effect sensor on ring gear, the tach only needs a one point calibration. This is how most tachometers can be calibrated with only a few switches and a fine adjust potentiometer. Alternator...

what is a good gear ratio for swaps on the diff in a M1008 CUCV PU?

Lots of work to swap two ring and pinions as new carriers are required. A 25% overdrive is equivalent to 3.42 axle ratio, a good improvement as it puts engine speed at 2400 RPM at 70 MPH.
