If your torque converter was not unlocking, I'm not sure how you would come to a stop. Does the engine die?
It's pretty common to have a "vigorous" downshift when coming to a stop. It feels a bit like being rear-ended by a mid size sedan. Maybe it's something like that?
I don't really know too much about it, but I have a buddy that goes up every year for the rally racing in Michigan. he says there's a ton of "unmaintained" county roads wherever he goes that might be fun to bash around on..... I think it's pretty far north though.
Interested....
And to @coachgeo 's point....
All of the drivetrain components are engineered to take the full HP and torque that the engine delivers (more considering most of our engines are running at lower settings, but newer/different models are running more HP/Torque on the same axles)...
Ha.... We had a house in Montana, the entire basement was a faraday cage. They embedded copper wire mesh in the walls all around and in the ceiling/main floor.
Cool, but it was a job to get the wifi down to the Xbox.
This was from https://usadapters.com/ correct? I don't suppose you have an order or quote number or something? I'd love to call them up and just order a known working configuration.
Method 1 is what I'm after... I was trying to do the same thing, except I'd replace the domed cap with something that sticks out less so I can minimise the size of the adapters.
Method 2 might be an option, but I have not been able to find hubs that fit that have the 5 on 5 pattern I need to...
I actually plan to move the fenders out some to accommodate putting the box (something like a s250?) between them.
It will track wider than the Jeep... which might be an issue, but replacing the axle, converting for electric brakes and losing the handbrake and tilt feature seems like a big...
The Jeep wheels will have a small diameter hole in the center. A 2 inch spacer will allow me to get the wheels mounted without hitting the center of the trailer hub, although, I will have to replace the domed cap with a flat one.
Edit: Also, thanks.
Digging up this old thread as I'm looking to have some adapters made to match the trailer wheels to my Jeep, mainly to eliminate carrying a 8 on 6.5 redundant spare.
Trying to fill in the info for the quote form....
Vehicle's Make, Year, and Model : M116A3 Military Trailer
Vehicle's Bolt...
I don't know how I missed this. I've wheeled all over that area. Benbo, Independence Pass, Picket Pen Lakes, Pryors, Bighorns.... Taking the Jeep back out this summer for an extended overlanding trip.
Welcome.
I love that drive from T-Falls, up through Libby, along Lake Koocanusa (or cut through the Yaak), into Rexford/Eureka, then down 93 into Whitefish..... I only ever did the whole thing once, as it's an all day deal, but that's some nice country with so few people in the way.
I joke about Butte...
8 feet is manageable for me. I could even swap out to smaller tires to further reduce the height, at least until it causes ground clearance issues on the trail.
How tall is the s788/1101 combo?
So the s-788 shelter has actual wheel wells..... Could the fenders on the m116a3 just be completely removed? or is there some structure to them that is required?
If I could just pull the fenders off, then I could just drop the box on with the wheel wells covering the wheels, removing anything...
