Success! I did try mixing the old fluid with the new, it turned a nice plum color and stayed that way. After bleeding I have a good firm brake pedal once again. Thanks to all who put their 2cents in. I truly appreciate the help. Now for a nice long test drive.

As I said, I didn't install my batteries i just measured what is on my truck. By all means go with what the manual says. Wasn't trying to give false info, just wanted to help.
I measured mine just now. I've owned my truck less than a year, and I did not install my batteries, but mine are installed this way:
Negative batt to frame rear of battery box
is 28 inches. It bolts on where the ground cable for the slave port is.
