Another thing to consider is one of the light relay kits LMC and others sell. These put the load of the headlights on a relay rather than routing it through the fuse box and switch. Do this in addition to you fuse box repairs.

Another question that I can't seem to find the answer, can the FDC be removed and reinstalled without too much fuss? The fuel rate screw seems to be a part of it.

On the HMMWVs they have a unit in place of a vacuum pump that sends some type of signal. Might be worth looking into.
