First and foremost, I'm no expert so don't take this as gospel, ESPECIALLY with brakes. I'm on the fence making a post at all, afraid I'll be spreading false info.... To make matters worse, I've been working on an M1083A0 and some of my stuff is clearly laid out a little differently. I...
Long time lurker, not much of a poster but I seriously wish him the most success. He posts so much good info on here, happily, for free!
Bookmarking the site for later. (y)
Looks great! I used some aluminum plate/washers for the top mounts but the bottom mounts need something more because the mirror pushes in on the door skin. In other words, plates on the inside of the door won't do anything on the bottom. I welded a bar to the door skin to distribute the load...
The GT is siiiiiick!
Here's my $0.02 for when you do mirrors...I did the Freightliner mirrors and they're too heavy for the door without reinforcement/modification. I think I would do the same ones again if I were to go back in time. However, you might look at some that attach to the top of...
Agreed, more is better in this case but having just bought 2 Donaldson filters myself, if I was going to get a mulligan, I'd buy only 1 of a really big filter. 1 really big filter one is less costly than 2 larger filters; upfront and in service... Of course, that ideology may or may not work...

Considering the existing condition, unbolt everything and tilt it forward until it falls off. Drag it from there....
It's really pretty easy to remove the cab provided you have some way to physically remove it. I removed the fenders and the step/box thing under the door. I made 4 lifting...
If you pick the alternate route via I70, be mindful of the weather through the rocky mountains! i.e, if it were me, I'd go South. But, if you do go the northern route and need anything near Denver, feel free to reach out ;)
Have fun and be safe!
Not sure about the cab or spare cylinders but your idea is legit. Look at Abom79 on youtube, he does this on the regular. Here's the first one that I found
Hit me up this spring. I'm pretty sure I'm getting rid of mine but I'm not ready to part ways until my plan comes together a little further.
That being said, I'm not sure why you want to go up. A flat bottom box is certainly easier than having to build around the tranny but you've already...
Just a couple of my thoughts. I agree composite is likely the best overall however as stated above, might not be the best for your low(er) budget DIY builder. For what it's worth, I'm planning on building a steel tube frame box from primarily 2x2. I'll skin the box with FRP panels.
Aluminum...
