Yes, I asked the question in Post 4410 in the main owners thread. I was posing the question in response to Couchoffroad’s statement in Post 2034.
So everyone is using the same terminology, I believe his post to mean that the intermediate box, which is the Air shifted box between the engine and...
Just wanting to verify what you mean here.
The Group Shift lever to the left controls High, Low, or Reverse.
The Pneumatic Intermmediate shift selector on the Main Shifter controls the intermediate gears.
So did you mean just to not run the Intermediate Low and Group "I" at the same time? Or...
Attachment removed. Reasons.
note, the FLU419 backhoe is specific to the FLU, but it is most common with the 580E. The modifications were to allow a tighter fold of the dipper. I have not investigated if the dipper cylinder is longer to allow the greater fold.
Will it do it? Maybe, but I would have a backup plan.
5000lb is a lot and the backhoe hydraulics are not designed for load holding (they will drift down over time). The backhoe cylinders are positioned to apply max force digging into the ground, not lifting up. With the boom vertical and the...
Your throttle linkage was likely bent, which will cause it to go overcenter and increase the throttle. I believe this happened on a prior FLU I had and I was able to pull up the foot throttle to shut it off. Check the linkage on the engine side of the firewall by the foot and hand throttle...
I had to order new ones off Mcmaster-Carr for one of my Mogs and the bolts were 1 1/4" -7 x 5.5" long. Which is a 1 7/8" hex. The bolts I removed had the SAE grade slashes on the head, so i knew they were inch.
Not to say someone had not shoved an imperial bolt in a metric hole(as that...
Getting a stainless steel hose for the cross-over air line from the regulator to the air tank made using the one from my parts truck as a template. Estimated cost of $150shipped w/in US. Who else would like one? The military has a service bulletin for this line as it rusts and contaminates...
Can confirm as I had this happen twice today. Trying to pull a tree out in low range and it just about stalled, I pushed in the clutch and noticed it running odd. Rpm slow, and would not respond to throttle to kill it. Also much quieter as the exhaust valve was not flapping. I didn’t realize...
The clutch throwout bearing slides on a tube surrounding the transmission input shaft and it is not unheard of for it to rust to that tube or otherwise have difficulty moving. I could believe that, when warm, that tube expands and makes it difficult for the throwout bearing to completely...
This post is likely to get removed. Ads belong in the classifieds per the rules.
That said I believe I sold this unit Mogg to his father two years ago. Sorry to hear the old man passed. I sold it with the Vermont title. If that was not transferred and I can help the new buyer I’m willing to. I...
No offense taken. If you ever enjoyed playing with the crane game at a carnival, then put a thumb on a backhoe, you will want to pick up everything. Force multiplication is fun. Certainly if I were interested purely in efficiency, I wouldn’t have bought a FLU. I enjoy showing off a bit.
Removed a mulberry tree for my neighbor and bent my backhoe thumb.

Eventually I will get the hang of editing videos, but for now it is raw. Fun stuff starts at 9:40 unless you want to listen to a Unimog idle for 9 minutes with some hammering interspersed...
A video of how to store the backhoe:

I try not to call things garbage. As an engineer, I understand customer's abilities to use a device well outside of the design intent. So maybe I am somehow using it improperly. Maybe the 32" thumb is the wrong product for the FLU. Certainly I modified it by cutting a chunk out so the bucket...
The 24” bucket is 24” wide. Measured frame the dipper arm to the edge of the bucket(not including teeth), it is 30 or 31” long off the top of my head. A 32” thumb will fit.
Personally I had better luck with a pressure bleeder than a vacuum bleeder . The DOT 5 seems a little more viscous than the glycol fluid. Details and photos are in the main thread.
I have 2 reservoirs, one for clutch and one for brakes. One circuit of the brake goes to the clutch reservoir for...
