The pump comes right out with one bolt holding it in. One bolt at the base of the pump. Remove the air cleaner, grab a socket and an extension, pull the bolt, and pull the pump right out, easy. Use some The Right Stuff Sealant around the base of the pump for a good seal when you re-install.

Thanks Keith, I think your explanation is the first time that I now fully understand the way the system works. I did the glow plug resistor bypass on my truck 20 years ago and never looked back.
Glow plugs should be 12 volts. I would pull them out and make sure they are not swollen and bench test them like in the video above. Should be a fairly quick and easy task.

If I'm following you correctly a think that arm just makes a loop. Maybe someone can send you a template. It would seem like it would just have to be long enough for a full pump extension until it stops. It seems that longer, may not matter.
