Thank you James, mine is Michael.
I thought I had pictures of the install but I couldn’t find them on my phone. My truck is in Haiti so very much out of reach for now.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Floridianson you are right on in your thinking. I have done this mod on my M817 and you need a valve that will vent the line going to the poppet valve at the same time it closes off the air supply, otherwise there is still enough air pressure to actuate the piston left in the line.
The perfect...
Check out hosewarehouse.com they have all the aeroquip hose and all the reusable 100R5 type fittings, love them. Carquest and Napa can get them too but you have to know what to ask for.
That is the normal place for the M817’s for sure. I don’t know about the other 809 series trucks.
The M51’s I’ve seen were on the side of the dump bed.

I hope by this you mean adjusting the governor settings to maintain 60hz with the proper droop adjustment as outlined in the TM. These generators should NEVER run at an idle. 1800 rpm out the gate all the way to shut down, or your voltage regulator might tell the tale.

You’ve got it now! Glad I could help a little. Also I want to thank you for your thread with the Napa part numbers for the M105, bolster, and M1061 trailer brake cylinder parts. Saved me a ton of time this morning!

Thank you for the picture of the original setup! My 1972 M817 came with no flaps, just little remains of the weld that used to hold the mudflap mount. I found some 36” replacements and just need to make a mount for them. Been trying to figure out if I should make it ridged or hang it on a couple...
The 5-Ton sprague can get worn in several different ways. Mine wore flat spots on the curved faces of the wedges for one direction when the poppet valves stuck and it stayed in reverse position while I was driving forward. The truck was was loaded going down hill and the same moment I felt it...
You can be glad the spring popping out kept you from getting it back together. A bunch of your “wedges” are in upside down. I have done this successfully on my M817 and it works perfectly now. It takes a lot of patience and VERY close inspection of each piece. If the spring is popping out you...
[For our dumps, the hinge and straight, not folding, could be nice mod.
I am working on this question too for my M817. The problem I see with leaving them hanging straight all the time will be when dumping a load on a pile. The material you are dumping pins the hanging flap to the tire and...
Thank you Guyfang,
In my case the fuel control rod is sticking in the closed position. I took the linkage all the way off to lubricate and exercise it and it worked smoothly through all movements. Then I manually manipulated the fuel control lever with nothing attached. It sticks at the very...
Something to check before you start taking off lines. The stop solenoid plunger may be retracting but is the fuel control lever coming along up? I am working on one for a friend and you have to touch the fuel control lever on the injection pump after you start cranking to get it to move up and...
I am contemplating the options to get my CDL. Right now I have to decide between buying the several thousand dollars worth of parts to get my truck back to current status on all maintenance and safety systems or pay the several thousand dollars to get a CDL.

I also used plasti-dip. I have had too many problems with silicone not adhering well and peeling loose. After almost two years the plasti-dip has held up very well to the elements and pressure washer.
