More progress on the 50. Got the grips installed, charging handle installed, and a fresh coat of paint.
Next step is to make a reproduction barrel. Right now I have a real barrel which probably weighs 40 pounds. It makes me nervous driving around with that heavy barrel supported by 3D printing...
Haha 🤣
Side panels are aluminum, barrel is real, the T&E and pintle are real. Everything else is 3D printed plastic.
The side plates are made substantially different than a real gun, so that they cannot be assembled with real M2HB parts and make a functional gun. I'm considering selling these...
True, but it might not matter. The pump is really screaming at 3000+ RPM. Maybe lower RPM would even reduce wear. Even a 20% reduction would make it quieter and probably not have a noticable impact on performance.
So just for the heck of it I added some LubeGard ATF protectant in the power steering reservoir (its Dex III compatible and adds lubricity without affecting viscosity). I've read that others have had good success using it with power steering systems that use ATF.
Anyway, it maybe slightly...
Point taken, but for context: I've done it twice ever outside of parades. It's a small town and many of the cops know me (I do work for local police and fire companies).
I don't do it often, usually only during parades. But when I do, no one is allowed in the turret/touching the gun, which is not loaded, and I'm complying with all state/local/federal laws.
Decided to mount up the dummy 50 cal (even though its not finished) and went to the beer distributor. Got quite the attention lol. Also took my son to the park for a bike ride.
Edit: and made a new avatar!
