    CARC Questions

Regular people can buy CARC from Sherwin Williams. However, it is only available from an Industrial Coating Division location. As far as durability goes there probably isn’t a finish that will hold up as well CARC. It is a very good finish. Just remember that the stuff has a lot of issues...

    M925a2 running rough

As WillWagner has already mentioned the fuel filter is the sacrificial lamb. The paper in a fuel filter when it has picked up water will stop the flow of fuel. It doesn’t take much to cause problems. One of the ways to check for water is to allow the vehicle to sit for some time, overnight is...

Aberdeen 2017 (44th East Coast Rally held at Ripken Stadium May 11-13

It’s getting close to the show and a few of us are planning on having a get together on Thursday evening as we did last year. The menu will be a repeat of last year, steaks, baked potatoes and what not. Look forward to seeing those from last year and anyone else that would like to come by...

    Deuce startup!

That truck looks to be an M54A2. The intermediate axle indicates a standard wheel base. It was probable made in 1968 or 1969 by Kaiser Jeep. The front turn signal lights are also of that era. As already posted the bed in not stock. If it does have the multi fuel motor it should start with...

    Passenger side tire cupping

It just seems to be the nature of the beast that when the tires are toed in to far, the right tire wears out. One of my 818s would eat the right tire in a couple hundred miles of highway driving. The toe in was off by 3/8th of an inch. After adjusting it to 1/32nd of an inch no more tire wear.

    Passenger side tire cupping

This post on abnormal tire wear should help. Post number 3 refers to toe in adjustment. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?20617-abnormal-tire-wear&p=211737&highlight=#post211737

M809 NHC 250 Fuel Filter Selection

The Wix filter has a 12 micron rating.

    No Thru Trucks signs

First off I don’t live in Ga. and can’t comment on the laws of that state. As has already been posted about commercial use and access, something else to consider. States have what are called STAA corridors. That is the big roads for big stuff, doubles, triples, 53 foot trailers etc. One is...

Aberdeen 2017 (44th East Coast Rally held at Ripken Stadium May 11-13

I’ll be there as usual and should be in my usual spaces, especially since it is for all intents and purposes just up the road from me. While the Aberdeen show is a shadow of its former self, it still has a lot going for it. Easy access, plenty of space, close lodging, and restaurants nearby...

Got pulled over today. Smoke Issue

There is a “C” model turbo and a “D” model turbo on the LDS 465 motors in the M35 vehicles. The C whistles while the D produces more boost. The Engine you have should be an LDS 465-1A motor. It uses a different turbo than the LDS 465. It is larger and has more boost. Is also has a whistle, just...

    M1008 power steering

It sounds like there is air in the system. Jack the front end up, start engine, then turn the steering wheel full lock left, then full lock right. Repeat several times and double check the fluid level. That should purge the air.

5 Ton 923A2 Slowly ran out of Fuel

A picture of the line on top of the tank would be useful. The ones that are on mine have a threaded fitting that goes into the tank with a brazed copper line going down into the fuel. The outlet is threaded for a compression fitting on a copper line that goes forward. To remove the lines on mine...

5 Ton 923A2 Slowly ran out of Fuel

You didn’t state whether you had one or the more likely two filter setup. My M923A2 loses prime every so often. It is a gremlin that I just haven’t tracked down. What I have found that works every time to prime the system is to pump the primer on the block a bunch of time then open the bleeder...

    MEP-803A in storage 14+ years

For flushing plain old tap water and a tablespoon would be fine. As for filling the system one can use ready-mix regular plain old green anti-freeze. Or concentrate and distilled water, 50/50 mix. Most bottled water in the gallon at the grocery store is distilled or de-ionized and works well...

    MEP-803A in storage 14+ years

Whenever I have any oil in the cooling system, for instance a bad oil cooler, I flush the system with water and Cascade dish washing soap. Some like to use Dawn, however it produces a lot of bubbles, Cascade doesn’t. It doesn’t take much soap. Just add hot water, if you have it, with some soap...

    $25 Mudflap Install

Those look fine to me. DOT for big trucks only require mud flaps to extend to the axle, or in this case to mid tire.

    How to Handle a Blowout

There has been quite a lot of back and forth about things that aren’t related to the original question in this post. With that said and getting back to the beginning question. There is also a video from Michelin about the topic of blowout involving big trucks. I don’t have the link in front of...

this a 5 ton? (A: M51A2 with LDS multifuel engine)

As already posted it is a 5 ton. The air cleaner on the fender is always a giveaway. If it is on the right it is an M39 series. If it’s on the left it is an 800 series with the Cummins. There is some unusual hose plumping that looks like it is for the heater, not a deal breaker. The exhaust...

    H45 stove

In Korea we used to have 55-gallon drums on their sides in a wooden rack outside the tents, kind of like a reinforced X pattern. I wish I had a picture. They were plumbed using the small hole positioned at 6 o’clock and had a shut off valve. Then for filling we just went down the row of tents...
