The cotter pins were a pain when I did mine also. I used a radiator hose pick on one and just wrenched the other one off. With the size of the nut and wrench that little cotter didn’t have a chance.
I used a Snap On 2 ¼” wrench and have a 2 ¼” striking wrench from Proto. I bought them off that unnamed internet site some time ago. I just looked at the prices today and it took my breath away. Perhaps there is a heavy truck shop around that may allow you to loan from.
I removed the top right torque rod, replaced the bushings and reinstalled the torque rod without removing the tires. I haven’t done a lower one yet, however I would think the lower ones are easier to remove since there isn’t a castle nut behind the spring pack.
One can pull a civilian trailer with a military trailer, I’ve done it many times. There are several things to keep in mind. The M931A2 with 14:00 X 20s has a fifth wheel height of 59”. Civilian trailers are designed for 47”. So if you are pulling a 13’6” trailer you will be 14’’6” height. I have...
First off I’ll leave it up to you as to how to escape New York.
There are two ways that I would travel since you are thinking of taking 95.
The first route I would take is 495 around Wilmington De to 13S, which is rite before 495 merges with 95. Take 13S though New Castle, 13S and route 1...
You may wish to check the cable that runs over the bell housing under the firewall, they are known to rub, then short out. Then check the cables going to all of the batteries for tightness. If those areas are OK then start looking at the starter cables. Then the PCB would be the next place I...
I can’t comment on Texas law, however I can offer some insight into Federal law and most state DOT thinking. Most commercial type vehicles require mud flaps on the rear axle, trucks, tractor when bob-tailing or trailer. And they must be long enough to extend past the axle. In other words, at...
If you have 6TL wet batteries they self-discharge about 4.4% every month. So it wouldn’t take much to have them discharge enough to have a problem, even with Solargizers. The alternator in these trucks, unlike most cars and lite trucks have 100% duty cycle alternators. As long as none of the...
Losing power definitely can happen from overheating.
I’m guessing you don’t have a thermal heat gun to check for hot spots/ flow thru the radiator.
For the little effort and cost I would drain the coolant, remove the thermostat, replace the thermostat housing, refill then flush the system...
First off if the truck was really running at 240 degrees you would have known it. Between the smell of things getting too hot and the knocking and banging it would have been obvious. Second the cooling system on these things make it pretty much impossible to load them enough to get them warm let...
This is a wire number list for military vehicles. Every wire should have a little metal tag on the end that will tell you what the wire does. Look at wires 460 and 461.

And a happy New Year to you. I’ve been around, just haven’t been posting much. I think you already know who I work for and it gets a “little” busy this time of year. I went through the logs and did the math and now have over 3 million miles as of the middle of last month.
A little more on what gimpyrobb has posted on a system that may have air in it. One must lift the front axle so that the front tires are free to move. With the engine running turn the steering wheel fully to one side, it has to be at the end of its travel. Hold it there for a few seconds then...
I would start with the basics. While you have the battery box open check the electrolyte levels. More on battery checking later. Then clean and check every battery connection. It only takes one loose cable to cause the problem that you are having. Then check the grounds, frame, engine and what...
What you have is a typical M105A2. When complete it has a curb weight of 2750lbs. It uses air to operate the brakes and that’s something that your pickup can’t supply. So basically you are going to have to tow it without brakes. Generally one doesn’t want to tow much over 4000lbs without brakes...
This sounds like a tire run out problem. The tires may not be seated true on the wheels. If you take a measurement from the wheel to a mold line on the side wall of the tire at say 12, 6 then 9 and 3 o’clock are the amounts the same? Sometimes if the tires are mounted with not enough lube they...
I just picked up a dump bed minus the cab protector from Meade the other day. When I went in, scaled weight was 42140 lbs, when I scaled on the way out 45200 lbs. That comes out to 3060 lbs. That was just the bed with tailgate. The cab protector probably weights around 300-400 lbs.
