USMCmoose, I will give one of these a shot. The previous sending unit starting flaking out after about a year and is non functioning now. I do have the 20 gallon S10 tank that several people are using. When I purchased the M37, it was in sad shape. The gas tank was replaced with 12 gallon tank...
Suggest that when you get the old girl running good, you use some Marvel Mystery oil in the gas tank. Roughly an once per gallon of gas. This will help the leather of the accelerator pump work and stay alive. The gas nowadays with the alcohol in it, gives old carburetors fits.
With this vehicle sitting so long, it is time for a compression test, leak back test. Things that come to mind are:
Sticky valves
Sticky rings
rust/dirt in the carburetor jets
weak fuel pump, diaphragm leaking
Keep us posted on what you find.
I installed a new sending unit a year or two back. These do not seem to be the most robust of devices. Gave up the ghost, gauge is fine, sending unit resistor wiper dead. Anyone found a more robust sending unit for these M37 trucks?
I had vapor lock issues on the M37 flat head 6 in summer time here in Phx Az. Summer time easily hits 115*F. Finally went with an Aerospace 24 volt electric fuel pump. No issues now. I had the heat shield, but 115*F before you start, with oxygenated fuel was an issue.
If you decide to go with STA tires, I bought mine through Jegs. Most places I checked are within a few dollars of each other. It was FREE shipping to my house! They were about $250/tire.

Eddy, the AMVCC (Arizona Military Vehicle Collectors Club) show is coming up quickly. January 25, 26. See attached flyer. This is a very big show that usually has a chopper or two, several tanks, lots of M37s, 1/4 ton Willys, Jeeps, Fords, 2.5 ton and 5 ton trucks. Lots of parts for sale too...
After lots of $$ and time/effort, the '63 M37 was entered into its first parade. Used lots of EL wire (electroluminescent).
This is the 18th year for the parade and gets bigger each year. Apache Junction closes off the Apache Trail for this parade.
The wires to my brushes were severely frayed. While the geny is out of the vehicle, it is a good time to replace them. Watch your back lifting that monster in and out of the vehicle!
Should you need brushes, give Genstar of Glendale Az a call. Genstar had the brushes for my 24 volt M37 starter in stock.

Look for the Power wagon M37 that is in "rough" aka super patina condition. Stop by and chat.

I am a member of the AMVCC, (Arizona Military Vehicle Collectors Club). There are many folks in the club, that live on the west side that will be there.
Travis,
Have you performed a compression test or a leak back test on the engine? You may need to do more than just bearings. Most say that a flatty 230 that has compression 90psi or below will need new rings/cylinder bore & hone also.
The Carter Ball & Ball ETW1 carburetor needs good...
