My apologies for delaying getting back with you. I’ve been up and down with back pain issues. Tomorrow I will get one out, shoot you the pics and confirm it’s what you are looking for.
Again, apologies.
Jeff
I’ve been using the pic to help guide my hammer. This picture more clearly shows what I need to do. The TM pictures I’ve previously seen aren’t very clear. I’m not sure where those pictures came from. Figure 117 of TM 9-805, dated 30 December 1943 is fairly clear. It shows the same setup as...
Getting there… need to fix the radius on the RH (up in pic) attachment point. Little by little I’m getting there. Not sure if I’m going to swap my fixes with factory parts. After all the work… I’ll have to think about it. Pics:
Once piece has been eluding me: the pintle hook front support. Item D in the picture. Time to get inventive. I scrounged up a chunk of metal (probably steel) and figured it could be made into the front support. Got called away before I could get pictures. Question, does anyone have a picture of...
Welding is not necessary. I came up with a different plan. It’s a bit long winded and complicated so I’ll just give the short version. I needed a pipe or tube that fit over the pintle hook shaft. In addition, it has to fit inside the pintle spring and have a feature that holds the spring in...
I dug around in my scrap pile and found some old pipe fittings that might do the trick. After much cutting, filing and hammering, I think this might work. Just need to do a bit of welding. Pics:
I’m going to have to scrounge into my unbelievable pile of miscellaneous stuff. That’s a good idea. It’s better than the ideas I came up with: machine one out of a billet of steel or forge(?) one. Problems with my ideas: I don’t have a milling machine to make one, nor do I have the materials...
The prices of these pumps are crazy! $650.00 +/- a buck or two! That’s nuts! So, with that in mind, $250.00 each. I tested them and both work. I don’t know if they are NOS or gently used. Let me know what you think.
Got a pintle hook assembly off of eBay. Took it apart, sandblasted all the years of accumulated hack off of it. Started putting it back together. I hope to primer it in the next couple day. After that, continue with the right rear spring and shock assemblies. I’m still missing one of the...
Interesting thread. I wonder how it all turned out? Of my 26 years in service, 18 of those years was on Hueys. There’s no way I’d ever be able to afford creating an airworthy H-1. Now if there’s a static display opportunity, I’d think real hard about taking advantage of getting it.
“To fly is...
I spent a few years feeling sorry for myself. Retired from the AF with a total of 26 years. I was in and out of the hospital for 3 or 4 years. No combat time, just a lot of hard work wore me out. And I FUBAR’ed both wrists. They’re both fused now. Got a real good job, after many of the surgeries...
I had to wave the white flag and bought a hydraulic ram kit from HF. As some may know, both my wrists are fused. They can not take much beating before pain gets too much to play/work in the shop. Now, fewer chances for pain inducing hammer blows. I’ll post pics one I get back to work on it.
As I understand it, the multi fuel M35/M52 trucks are able to handle ether without damage to the engine. I’ll caveat that with too much ether and truck go BOOM!
My cheap Chinese tractor has several decals that all say, “you no use ether in tractor engine. Not responsible for engine going BOOM!”

orry for the delay. I’m a bit swamped with too many projects and not enough time to get them all done. I have two left. Once I figure out what to charge, I’ll get back with.
Before, during and…. Time to get out the big hammers, pry bars, pipe and crescent wrenches. I can get the metal pretty hot just got to work out the steps needed to straighten this thing out.
Sounds good, thank you for the info. My son is the welder, I’ll ask him to handle the heating up part. Definitely do not want to bend more metal than I am trying to fix.
